Yeah, I didn't even watch the first leg on Friday, thinking Italy had it in the bag. Pretty tense match today, with some interesting calls or lack thereof. But you have to hand it to Sweden, their teamwork carried the day.

Definitely a shocker. First time since 1958 that Italy doesn't qualify for the world cup. Great job by Sweden. Not a fun way to retire for Buffon

The all new USMNT draws w/ Portugal (okay, their 2nd string), 1 - 1 because our goalie lets an easy shot go through his legs. . .
but they were all new players except Yedlin--and they worked hard, pressed hard, and showed spirit. Pulisic didn't play either. . .

Benzema looked offside for the first, but seems the ref let play continue as it went straight to the keeper. Once he's done that, he can't go back change just because Karius makes a boneheaded mistake.
That said, RM seem to be about the luckiest team around. The play that got Salah injured wasn't terribly bad. But Salah getting injured there certainly changed the game. Between that and two awful keeper mistakes, RM didn't need to be a lot better than Pool.

I know you all are not trying to argue that Liverpool lost 'cause of one marginally bad offsides call. Ebb and flow of the game and all that, but still ..., no way. They lost 'case someone put a curse on the goalie (next time Liverpool, get a Spanish goalie!).
It breaks my heart because Liverpool could have won it, and I was rooting for them. I hope Salah recovers to play for the WC, and wish Wales were in it.
