Juve vs Bayern was the match of the year so far. Really impressed with Juve, they deserved to win and a missed call really kept Bayern alive. Gotta give credit to Bayern also, for the late heriocs. Thiago and Coman should have played the whole game!

Quarterfinals draw on Friday.

Barca keeps on rolling--though the gunners did score a goal today.

Nemar, Suarez, and who else, Messi, scored in a rainstorm!

Suarez's goal was unreal. Barca could definitely repeat, they are looking scary.

Another Barsa/Bayern final, eh?

I would be fun to see PSG and Real so we could have a Zlatan/Ronaldo pout off, or spout off.

Guatemala drops US MNT 2 - 0 in the first qualifying round. . .

Not a good start for the cup hopes in 2018. . .

In case you missed it Johan Cruyff died after a five month battle with
lung cancer. Truly one of the greats.

Johan Cruyff - an exceptional player and a true magician - when Cruyff was near the ball anything could be expected. He is also seen as the original architect behind Barcelona's successes. Pep Guardiola continued what Cruyff had started... and the rest is history...

This is from his family:

"Actually, I never make a mistake, because it takes a huge effort for me to make a mistake."

"Playing football is very simple, but playing simple football is the hardest thing there is."

"In my teams, the goalie is the first attacker and the striker the first defender."

"There is only one ball, so you need to have it.". (Johan woulda liked Yogi Berra)

"Why couldn't you beat a richer club? I've never seen a bag of money score a goal."

"If I wanted you to understand it all, I would have explained it better."

"In a way, I'm probably immortal."

Is today the end of soccer in the USA? Without a 2-0 victory it would seem so although it
may be moot as it seems that we are incapable of producing true scorers, and by that I mean
players who strike fear into the heart of opposing defenders. Of course, after Saturday's
historic embarrassment one wonders if we can even field defenders.

I fear today may also put paid to the notion that being a great player qualifies one as being
even a good coach.

I'm rooting for the mouse that roared: go Chapines! OK, I did have to look that up. And, if the US manages to dig itself out of this hole, way more power to them. I wonder what kind of game it will be. I didn't see the first leg.

And Mexico plays oh Canada tonight too in a Cup qualifier. . .

The US men's team is like Jekyll and Hyde.
The real team showed up yesterday. . . 4-0 over Guatamala--Yay!
Mexico dominated Canada again. . .

And US U-23 men fail to qualify for Olympics for the second time in a row. That's bad.
I really think US soccer is going downhill. Too many fathers coaching youth soccer who
not only have no business doing so but actually do harm.

Riley,
Maybe we just suck. Some American degenerative soccer gene makes us crap. Last fridays game was horrific. I think we will see more of the same in the games to come. If we are relying on a 34 year old striker to sink goals for us in 2 years at the world cup things are desperate and looking grim. The MLS is not a breeding ground for world class players, its where world class players go to die. Until we see more US players in top leagues in Europe performing we will continue to be crap.
