Hi Bobby,
I just read the article in the Cody Enterprise about your progress. Like everyone has said a couple dozen times, you are amazing. Stay strong. Like many others I think of your fight, when I'm trying to get through little feats of the day, which really are sooo insignificant compared to what your day entails. I just did my first 1/2 ironman triathlon, it wasn't the 70.3 miles that got me, it was the 36 degree air that I had to start my river swim in, and the 20 mph head wind I had to bike and run in. It's funny, because like you and many of our friends, this masachistic behavior is kindof normal, but you especially on all your expeditions. So, again, what I just completed Saturday was miniscule compared to your resume of amazing feats.
Miss you. Love Heather

Hey Bobmeister,

All the news is good, friend, and I'm glad to hear that you will soon head to your new home. I am so inspired by your progress and everything you have achieved in the last year, it's not even funny ...

Thought of you yesterday as I finished my 10th triathlon (woo hoo). Mostly I thought about you because it really sucked (VERY hot, code orange day, not enough training, the usual) and ALL I wanted was to quit, get off the bike and walk back to the transition area. I just couldn't, though, knowing what a fight you've been putting on and what a rock star you've been. Soooo, just switched to a lower gear and clenched my teeth through a few more hills and a run from hell.

I just wanted to share this with you, and let you know that I love you, keep thinking of you, sending you the good vibes, and counting the days until you're able to drink beer again.

And as always, I hold you close in the back of my mind,

Charlotte

I was over visiting my mom, she gives me an old National Geographic of with that cover Todd, Bobby and those guys trying to do Great Trango Tower in 1996. Amazing stuff Bobby, especially the part where you are up cranking the crux pitch free.

Horrendous Himalayan winds trying to tear you off while high altitude and lack of recovery, coupled with your bloody hands not healing: you fought through the exhaustion and cranked it free anyway after some big whippers.

Whew.

Here's to you cranking off this one now too:-)

Hey Bobby,
was going to stop in Denver to see you on our way back from the trip to Cody for the 4th, but a pain I had in my side for the previous couple of weeks had by that time started to be, well a real pain in my er side and I wanted to just get the drive over with at that point. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I found myself getting ready to go into surgery for an appendectomy. Woke up several hours later and the surgeon said well we took our your appendix, and part of your intestine. No wonder it hurts so damn much doc, er wait I thought that was part of the deal, getting the pain in my guts to dissapear! Well I got to spend 4-5 days in the hospital and I certainly thought of how minor and miniscule this all was compared to the epic you've been through man. I learned my body doesn't really like morphine too much--real nasty stuff that morphine, the worst part was hiccupping for hours straight, something about the frenetic nerve being aggravated by the surgery, all child's play to you though... So anyway, I'm walking around like an 80 year ol ranch hand but it doesn't hurt when I sleep! My bro got married up in Northern Idaho, but my guts, er what's left of them, put the kabash on me attending. I've had surgery once in my life and it happened right before my little bro's wedding, crazy!!!

The trip to Cody was great, saw Russ Johnson for the first time in about 20+ years we had some dinner and talked a bit about you and reminisced about the good old days up at Sleezy and the Episcopal church. It was so good to catch up with him he had some pretty amazing stories of his own to tell. Also saw Julia and her new baby, we seem to enjoy hanging at the coffee shop at the same time of day. got up to Tensleep with Devries whom also is thinking about you a lot , he's been working hard on remodeling his home it's looking gorgeous. He's got a picture of you on his desktop on his computer which looks like you may have gotten in a fight with a bottle of scotch or something !! Also got to see busy Manual up in Rock Dodge, he put me to work right when I showed up!! He's doing great.
Never seen so much snow in July up in the beartooths, it was crazy man, We couldn't even really go fishing as all the holes were under water, there were still frozen lakes up on the pass. The skiing up there just looked unbelievable for that time of year though, I'm sure old Joe is loving that.
Went for a hike up clearwater and got turned back at the first crossing as the little creek there was a raging nasty force, so I just headed up a ridge and soaked in the Absaroka beauty. Sure felt good being back up in the mountains from home, I soaked in some great views for you and I'm sure your ears were buzzing as I spoke with many folks who have you and your progress in their hearts
as always am rooting for you every day !!!
keep up the amazing recovery Bobby!!!!

WOW! What Great News!!!
TK

Dear Everyone,

I hope this email finds all of you well. MANY apologies for being sooo out
of touch the last month and a half. But no news is good news in this case!
I'm forwarding an email (below) that my mom sent toward the end of July,
which gives a great overview of Bobby's first month out of hospital/rehab.
And things just keep getting better! Later today, I will send out a second
update on the last couple of weeks and I will ask Bobby if he wants to write
a note to all of you that I can relay. He started writing last week and has
been communicating some incredible things (and some really funny notes). So
from now on these updates will include messages from Bobby (if he feels like
it, of course).

In the meantime, my mom's email is below.

Thank you always for the ever-present support.

Sending much love, peace and happiness to all of you always,

Faith

Hi All!

Hi from Cody where I can access my address book and think of you all. Days
speed by in Denver at Bobby's new "digs" now in much better shape. We
raided the World Market for curtains, red painted tables and other
assundries to improve upon the new infrastruicture of yard, sprinkler, air
conditioning and new ropes for the ancient windows. The nursing staff has
now hunkered in and we are all used to the busy routine of medicine,
therapy, showers and fun! One of Bobby's former bosses has given us TWO
TV's and we are well equipped with great videos from the Banff Film Festival
thanks to NGS and another great boss! Evan, a nurse, bought Bobby a
checkerboard so there is gaming going on.

Often, our entourage wheels down to Platt Park where we hosted a 4th July
picnic with blanket and the whole shebang inc watermelon.

Food: Faith concocts delicious green combo smoothies but my zucchini soups
seem to be a flop for the time being. Still on the feeding tube for the
basics tho.

Big Bob bought a great van and just this weekend, Bob, Mona Bobby and our
great case manager, Lynsey, took an adventure trip to a State Park!

Friends have been coming and going and thanks to all. All of you should know
that calls to Bobby are appreciated. We have a land
line: 720-570-2271. You must do most of the talking but Bobby takes it all
in!

Anyway, all is well and we are already thinking about the logistics for the
Cody move. Meanwhile, the current situation is a perfect transition.

Much love to all and all! Anne

WOW! Here's More!!

Dear Everyone,

Below is a note from Bobby to all of you (he wrote it longhand and I transcribed it here). I explained to him what an incredible support you have all been and that everyone would love to hear directly from him. He smiled, nodded and wrote this:

Hi everyone that seems to care for me,
Ok, everybody you can stop crying for me now, thanks though.
Not much new to report, except that my family and friends are great.

Love,

Bobby Model!

Bobby’s been laughing a lot, mouthing words (sound still to come) and working really hard to regain strength in his body. His endurance is continually improving and he’s awake a lot more (tho he still needs lots of sleep). We have a grrrreat van so there have been lots of outings. It looks like the move to Cody will happen later this fall (Bobby is verrrrrry happy about this—he doesn’t write fondly about being in Denver, but my parents are getting everything lined up for a smooth transition and my mom working triple time to make it all happen).

The emails, letters, calls, visits are all wonderful!

Many thanks to you all.

Sending lots of love,

Faith
