The whole Sheik Yerbouti album is incredible. I'll keep going with Nature.

Women's Liberation
Came creepin' across the nation
I tell you people I was not ready
When I f*#ked this dyke by the name of Freddie
She made a little speech then,
Aw, she tried to make me say "when"
She had my balls in a vice, but she left the dick
I guess it's still hooked on, but now it shoots too quick

my favorite Zappa piece is the fun and deceptive Disco Boy - crazy exciting music.

I don't know about Mother's Day, but for some reason the lyric from FZ's Brown Shoes Don't Make It popped into my brain today, while climbing in Tuolumne...

Do it again, ha
And do it some more
Hey, that does it, by golly
And she's nasty for sure
Nasty nasty nasty
Nasty nasty nasty
Only thirteen, and she knows how to nasty

don't ask me why, I don't really understand it myself...

It's a little ridiculous to try to pick a favorite from such an extensive and varied oeuvre, Because, you know, Broken Hearts are for aaaaaaaaaaaaass holes.

I love some of the instrumentals beyond all reason, such as Night School and What's New in Baltimore. But I also like a great number of the absurdist faux-poetry numbers as well. And the existential cry for help:

Why does it hurt when I pee?
Why does it hurt,
when I peeeeeeeee?
I don't want no doctor
stick no needle in me;
Why does it hurt when I pee?

Got it from the toilet seat...
I got it from the toilet seat...
It jumped right up
And grabbed my meat!
Got it from the toilet seat.

If that isn't the essence of the blues, what is?

Sad to say, I can't play Zappa when the wife's in the house, because she's heard them all too often, but at least I have transmitted the appreciation of same to one of my offspring, the guitar hero.

favorite(s)
 Sofa(vocals)
Hot Rats(arrangement) - edit: ooops. I meant peaches en Regalia. Not that Hot Rats isn't great, but Peaches is just such incredibly beautiful work.
 Electric Aunt Jemimah(lyrics)
 Black Page Drum Solo(percussion)

.....name about any other FZ/MoE song and that will probably be a favorite too.

One time I went to a concert here where a stuffy-looking orchestra performed classical arrangements of some of Zappa's works. The highlight of the concert was a rendition of Muffin Man. The arrangement was excrutiatingly tight and...well, classical music-y; these tuxedo'd musicians were playing their instruments with a precision that could only be considered an ode to Zappa-like control, and then....this bizarre, feaky creature sort of man who looked like he definitely would have had crumbs in his beard and cupcake batter spoltches on his cheap corduroy sportcoat.....enters and stands center stage - and starts expousing on the muffin vs. cupcakes theory....hahaha.

You know, I am surprised that I never really have heard of any Zappa cover bands. Surely there must be some. I think if there was a group of musicians capable, I would pay good money to go listen to them.

Welll.....I found an interesting site, searching tribute bands. The Paul Green School of Rock Music, at http://www.schoolofrock.com/index.htm

In the Concerts page, which has many, many shows coming featuring the music of a lot of great artists, is a Zappa tribute in San Fran. Someone ought to go and do a TR.....

Says:
A Tribute to Frank Zappa
12 Galaxies

Here's a link for the 12 Galaxies page, but it only lists the shows for the current month.

The Mothers were never better than on "Burnt Weenie Sandwich" and "Little House I Used to Live In" is the ultimate piece from that era.

I've heard that Dweezil, who can really stroke those strings, did a terrific mini-tour last year with some of the guys from the band - Napoleon Murphy Brock, George Duke et. al. I'm sorry I missed it.
