So I was watching the Patagonia video about Katie and Lynn freeing the WFLT and at about 9:04 Katie comes across some duct taped edges and (I think) mutters softly "f*ck aid climbing".

Watch it and tell me if I'm wrong. Just thought it was funny because they silenced out/bleeped her yelling F*CK when she fell, but they missed this one.

Man....watching Lynn climb is like watching effortlessness personified.

And yes, in addition to wearing giant hoop earrings Katie Brown tooootally says "F*#k aid climbing."

bADASS. I wanna climb that thing! The Westie looks like some of the coolest pitches ever. How many of you have even contemplated freeing out on that thing-- does it look totally implausible when you're on it? Seems like it would be worth it to climb what you can, and pull on gear for the rest, but that's a very easy perspective from the comfort of my house right here.

And yes, she says 'f*ck aid climbing' very clearly after powering through what looks like some very pumpy stuff.

Didn't really consider it. I was too busy toiling and covered in bat guano.

Man, watching both of those two climb is super inspiring.
Especially Lynne - she is so fluid and powerful, she's an awesome role model. They seemed to key in on some of Katie's less fluid moments, but trust me, I've seen her climb, and she's also very smooth, and very powerful and very tough - check the rating on that thing if you don't believe it!

As far as Katie goes, she's also an amazing climber, and if cursing about aid climbing helps motivate her up the rock, then good for her!
f#ck aid climbing!

:-)

Of course, "I've" never cursed while climbing...

For WFLT done in 'proper' style see video link below. I remember both me and my partner distinctly muttering some like 'f*ck free climbing' when we forced to do some what little mandatory 5.7 there is!

I've never aid climbed, so be gentle with me...but, what do aid climber's use "duct tape" for? I know duct tape has ubiquitous qualities in facets of life, but can't for the life of me figure out how you would use duct tape in this situation...duct tape anchor? duct tape a hook or hanger onto the rock? Please enlighten me oh wise ones, I'm too lazy to go look it up!...Thx.

oh yea, Katie did say a naughty word!...for the record.

Duct tape is for sharp rope cutting edges.

Aid climbers use duct tape to anchor themselves to the rock at belay stations. this helps when they run out of drill bits.

Thx. for the info. Out of all of those responses...I'll go with "randomtask's", makes the most sense to me. Now I know of 1 million and one uses for duct tape! I love that stuff!
