Last chance to put this out there, a real 23rd hour effort…I should have sooner! One of my best partners doesn’t climb any more, another I hardly ever see, and my longest-time partner who climbs super hard is usually off who-knows-where doing some superhero stuff. I used to struggle to keep up with him even when I was at my best. I need some new western states climbing partners and also just people to connect with when I travel.
Last week I turned 52, and it’s pretty hard as a single middle-aged female who isn’t top tier to find partners willing or able to go out. I’ve even gotten shy to seek day partners through MP. Due to injuries, a crappy assault last year, partner changes, work commitments, and the subsequent weight gain/muscle mass changes through the years my climbing prowess has noticeably waned… but though faded, the flower is still trying to live.
I would like to exchange contacts with some of you out there who would be willing to consider climbing with me if/when I come around your way, or who might want to climb out my way. I haven't tried to meet up with folks from ST in the years I've been on here. I’m currently in SLC area, with very flexible part-time work and I love road trips. I don’t mooch and I am self-sufficient when I travel in my truck (except for the people to connect with!). I miss the heck out of Cali climbing and other places I used to go, like in AZ, and I am eager to see new places too. I would be psyched to meet some of you other Supertopians out there. Just regular people who like to get out. I don’t know if the member contact feature will still work but I am on MP and the dreaded FB, my last name is blood, and cblood at umich dot edu will find me. Cybele,
Harden up and post up on mountainproject regional forum when you are planning a trip!
It should still work well when you have a date range in mind.
The general seeking partner thing on MP should still work well for local partners;
just turn it off if you are injured and back on when you are ready to go.
Sadly I am not climbing well these days, unless you think struggling to follow a 5.8 works for you.

Wow, I didn't expect actual replies on here, I feel warm hearted for the kind words and the bumps. Thank you.
I was very violently assaulted by a psychotic and straight up just jacka** of a patient at my mental health hospital job last year. It changed everything. My health, my mindset for leading. I still am in treatment both physically and mentally. I am trying to get some mojo back this year.
To reply to a few posters on this thread specifically-
Phylp yes thanks I did join a couple
Mike yes my past experience is great, I am technically a good partner having been on 10 big walls and done a few hundred days on ice, including lots of multipitch. I never was very good at trad, did some of course but never excelled, did a bit better at sport. Right now I am truly in rehab mode and really, yes, there are 5.8s cracks here in Little Cottonwood that I would be struggling to follow too, what with our old school ratings here in LCC... My friend who climbs 10s was here in the fall and was able to hold me well enough to get up some 10s in LCC, so yeah that's the current rehab status. Not good for someone with a lot of prior ego invested in climbing.
Clint C. I know there are a fair amount of older people posting on ST so I thought maybe I might reach more older people here. MP I get a lot of younger males who seem a little put off when a grey hair female shows up, haha. Also people who climb low grades there tend to be kind of scary technically. Poor rope and belay knowledge, etc. The climbers here in SLC tend to be very good and mostly the newbies climb low grades. Trips and local climbing using MP have yielded some good and some bad results in past 10 years. Of course, yes, I can't completely stop posting there, thanks for a bit of ass kick on that front, to get me back on MP this season.
As for climbing once or twice a year, well Mike, shoot, if I climbed once or twice with everybody on here I'd be climbing a lot, wouldn't I. The dirty truth is that I haven't even been out this spring yet (yeah it rained for three weeks here but still) so I won't scoff at anything at this point.

I am in sore need of rehab- friendly partners who have a little patience and technical know-how.

Thank you PMB! I am slowly, like a glacier moving, recovering. There was crazy whiplash with a disc blown, muscles/ligaments torn, and all great fun. Lots of sad stories on ST I am not the only one. I have learned for sure in recent months that I am not able psychologically to give up climbing and I think I can gain a lot of improvement back in the next few years if I put myself out there enough.

That is pretty awful to get assaulted and injured by a crazy on the job.
Hang in there with your recovery - just keep moving forward when you can and you will get there.
I see what you mean about older climbers who don't climb that hard but are proven safe at belaying, etc.
Too bad I don't live near SLC, as that might fit me well.
You might try looking up Bob Palais.
He lives in SLC, is about my age, and knows pretty much everyone.
OK, that probably means you already know him. But if not, look him up on facebook or something.
He could probably list several people who fit the old / slightly slow category. :-)
