I have a hide-a-key on every car

I regularly pre-apologize to my wife for forgetting our anniversary

I have a premade pack list on my phone for every trip and scenario i.e.; surfing/climbing, climbing/backpacking, wine tasting/surfing and so on.

I often recite "keys, wallet, glasses, what am I forgetting?" Repeat...repeat- This, as I pat myself down.

My wife and I do an “alzheimer’s check” to make sure we have everyting before we leave a climbing area. Works great....whenever we remember to do it.

Don’t fight it, being organized is boring.

So last week I got off the plane at Heathrow and went into London. Hit the ground running, as it were. After my VIP tour of The Alpine Club I went on a walkabout. Wound up at Westminster Bridge and took a pic of Big Ben wreathed in scaffolding. Went to the wee ice cream kiosk, scarfed, and headed down to the Tube. One stop west I remembered I needed to get off to go to the Falkland Islands consulate to check on my political asylum application. As soon as I hit the platform I realized it was already closed but the train doors had already closed. I reached for my phone in my pants pocket. GONE! Phack! I’d been pickpocketed in the throng at the bridge? Jeezus! I’d also forgotten to lock the damn thing! OMG! Wait! Had I left it on that park bench about 6 blocks down river? No! In my jet lagged fog I remembered I had kept a death grip on it at the bridge rather than tempt fate with it in my pocket. Then I remembered I had set it on the counter of the ice cream kiosk while I fumbled for coinage. I raced back to the kiosk and the nice Polak girl said in really bad English
“A man take phone”.
‘A man?’ WTF? Then she handed me a tiny scrap of paper.
“He say you call him for phone.”
How the phuk was I to call him? He had my phone! Then it dawned on me that I did have a phone! My hotel had given me one! Hallelujah! After an interminable ring a guy with a worse accent than the nice Polak answers. Yes, he have phone. He by The Eye (the huge Ferris Wheel on the other side of the river). No, he not at Eye he by rion. Rion? Yes, right rion! Oh, the big white lion on the other side of the bridge? Yes! You come quick, I go soon! I’m running, dood! I get across to the right rion, I hope, and realize I didn’t ask which of the 50 people around it would he be. Then he walks up to me smiling with my phone in his hand!
“You phone unrocked, I rook at you pictures!”
Dood, you rock! He didn’t look chinese, I think he was Nepalese or Tibetan. He got very insulted when I pulled some money out! Please, take it and make me feel better!

People are awesome.

I always have full survival gear set in the trunk of my car (anything from fire starter and compass to tent and sleeping bag) + emergency sapsat beacon. Pepper sprays handy (3 of them in different locations), 2 car window breaking tools, one in a car in a cup holder, another in my backpack, etc, etc. Tire repair kit/inflator, battery jumper, a set of a few tools, saw, axe - always in the trunk/under car seats.
My key bunch has multiple attachment tools on it, from lanyard to carabiner and gets hooked onto something that's on me the moment I'm out. A couple of hide-a-key points.
Like to stay organized and prepared.

Before we leave for any trip, my wife always asks "What are we forgetting?" I always answer "Nothing," since by definition, anything else I mention we did not forget.

I do, however, keep my climbing gear pre-sorted and pre-packed. I start with my basic hiking package. If climbing, I add my free package. If aiding, I add my aid package. If roped soloing, I add my solo package. I have a separate gym package. I only need to customize for mountaineering or walls.

If only I could remember to take the appropriate package!

hey there, say, all...

wow, i am a list maker... always did... still do...

with 'neat little circles' to CHECK-OFF, after i 'remember/do' them...

works great, as long as you leave the LIST in plain sight, all the time...

*sadly, it is a very messy list-- but-- the circles are really neatly 'neat' ...

then, only glitch is this--CARDS or mail:

if you check-off all but one thing, because of 'A REASON' ...
well-- when the reason is solved,
you can 'forget' you DID it, as-- i just throw the list away...

thus-- if it is a card, to send, i will SEND ANOTHER, :o

*trip 'remember list' though, work great...

JUST KEEP them in plain sight around the house, ;)

*i think my dad had a list, too...
i think my sis, does it...
not sure about some of the brothers...

my NEIGHBOR was trying it, but-- he forgets where he puts it...
he's back to just writing on his desk calendar...
*and, my one local friend, does too...

if all else, fails, PIN your 'cue cards' of what to do,
to your shirt... (only had to do that once, yearsssssssss ago...)

I guess we keep our junk compartmentalized. Camping gears is in one place, mess kit is always ready to go. Food box is always ready to go maybe a grocery store stop.

River stuff is ready to go.

Rack and ropes ready to go.

It actually only takes 30 minutes to pack for a weekend trip. But we have a big truck that we rarely drive but on road trips. So you can just load the sucker up.

I hear you with the "pat down" before leaving the house! Hahaha.

I’ve got 20 pairs of reading glasses and can never find one, but I never seem to lose my keys or wallet. For myself, I might be better served countermeasuring my countermeasures. This could take a while.

If I put any item down, I always put it into the same spot - everything has own designated spot - so there's no time spent trying to locate anything. I had spent almost the whole life moving/always on the road, and the 1st thing at any place is to assign every unpacked item it's spot and memorize it. Items in the car trunk are also subject to strict organization.

You sure do some globe trotting. Do me a favor, before the taco shuts down and make a TR listing the places you have been.

I have misplaced my favorite tool

We've got a Seldin in one of the ortho packs, last used it to debride a non-union fx in a sub-10# dog so I could place a tiny little ex fix (which I hadn't done for a least a decade, so astounding that it all worked...).

There's another perio elevator that I like better, takes a nicer edge, no idea what it is.
