Looks like Ed Cooper has had a stroke and his son is hoping to help him break the hospital record for most cards received. Prognosis sounds good, but also sounds like he has a bit of a recovery ahead of him.

(Somewhat edited.)

Initial post to Facebook by Matthew, Ed's son, on May 17th:

1) For all you Ed Cooper fans, friends, and fellow lovers of nature, photography, and mountains, I’m Matthew, Ed’s son. I wanted to let you know that Ed had a stroke on Tuesday and we only were able to get it diagnosed tonight. Thankfully it wasn’t a large stroke, but it has made him unable to walk and has made one whole side of his body very weak. He is hospitalized now and they are trying to figure out the best course of treatment. The doctor hasn’t made any promises obviously, but he said that maybe half of people he’s seen with this type of stroke and location have fully recovered eventually. We appreciate all your prayers and good thoughts for Ed, and I will personally read every comment here to him in the hospital tomorrow. Thanks for your friendship

2) UPDATE: my dad Ed is admitted to the hospital for the stroke and after being there and getting the proper diagnosis and assessment, the doctor says his prospect for a full recovery is very good, and we have high hopes and faith that that we will have a good outcome. Thank you all of you for all of your prayers!

Then by his daughter Beth and son Matthew yesterday:

My dad will be moving to an Acute Rehab Unit to recover from his stroke, and we would love to shower him with TONS of get well cards.
I encourage anyone to send him cards, whether you know him or not!! Please share!!!❤️

Hi everyone, I am now online on the phone at the hospital, so you may message me or comment here. I have a very difficult time with the keyboard so my responses may be slow, please forgive me. Ed

Ed, I have admired your achievements in climbing and your photography is often stunning. We had a mutual friend, Don Gordon, and he always spoke highly of you.

Here is to getting well soon and hope to meet you some day.

Today's update, posted to Ed's FB page by his son Matthew:

"My father, Ed Cooper, seems to be doing better already! He said yesterday that he is making measurable physical improvements in the things that he can do related to getting up on his own and standing! And thank you to all the folks who sent cards! I spent an hour on Tuesday just reading him all his unopened cards. He was so blown away, he teared up many times. The response from all his friends and fans has been wonderful. I have showed him multiple times how to get him online and answer all the comments, but I don’t think he has the dexterity to do it yet, otherwise he would have. I even got him a new cell phone yesterday with a larger screen, but still he hasn’t. Hopefully he eventually will, but rest assured that these cards and support have really helped him stay positive and upbeat. Thank you everyone! You guys are amazing and it’s really helping!"
