Its called “Supertaco Refugees”. Just search for it. You have to put in a request and I will accept it.
It’s not a perfect fix, and it would require you to....gasp!.... use your actual real name, but it might be a way to stay in touch as this place burns to the ground.
I have met some amazing people on this site and there is amazing content in the form of trip reports, videos, historical threads that could be easily cut and pasted over to a Facebook Group before this place turns the lights out. And like I said, it’s not perfect, Facebook would immediately own it all anyway.... but they own all my other stuff so who cares.
It has been created and is now up and running, but I would have discretion to boot people off if they become violent, foul, hateful, etc....But these rules and rags are standard fare for Facebook groups and have been for years. A couple of the groups that I belong to have over 5000 members. When people use their real names, things tend to stay fairly civil.
I have started with a whole bunch of initial invites of some of you who are already Facebook friends with me. Then you can invite people as you want. We can make it as private or as public as we want. But it would be cool to immediately cut and paste some of the better ST content ( historical threads, good writing, informational posts) into the group immediately. Just make sure it’s your own content as per Cmac and RJ’s request.
I would love to stay in touch with a lot of you, and many of us are already Facebook friends, but getting people like Donini, Largo, Werner and some of the regulars could create enough of a critical mass to create something good over there. Like I said, not a perfect fix, but a good way to keep in touch as this thing falls apart. I can explain to some of your old fogeys how it works if you’re keen.
Scott
Come and find us!
P.S. I ended up using the name SUPERTACO after RJ specifically requested that I did not use the name Supertopo. Hopefully we don’t get sued by a taco truck user.

I'll have exactly zero to do with FB. There are probably many like me.
A ST replacement has to be a genuine replacement, which means that somebody without an ax to grind (via heavy-handed "management") needs to put up and manage an actual forum.
The problem, imo, is that ST evolved organically, and that sort of evolution can't be just "made" to happen, even by "creating the right conditions."
FB is, imo, certainly not even "the right conditions."
Thanks for the effort, seriously, but FB is not the answer.
Edit: I see that as I typed this, several others agreed on the FB point. Again, there are many of us.

Lynnie. Mine is up and running and I would be glad to transfer it to yours to make it easy. I’m just glad you are stoked and that we are on the same page. If you want to delete yours, go ahead, I already have invited about 140 people and it seems like it’s gaining some traction with about 30 members so far.
If you want to keep yours, I can shut mine down immediately but we would need to do so pretty quickly.
Its called “Supertaco Refugees”. Just search for it. You have to put in a request and I will accept it. Badabigbaddaboom.
Just let me know what you think. I’m just going to keep this thing rolling and be available.
I might even delete this thread in a day or so to keep some continuity and draw people to the other thread. Just thinking out loud.

Finding this group is difficult, because simply searching for "Supertaco Refugees" doesn't show it. I'm not a facebooker, and it took me several tries to find a way to search for "groups". And since I stumbled into it by accident, I can't tell anyone how to do it.
Maybe one of you facebook types can provide clear directions?

What a great start...
Who doesn't like rules???... (Rules are from the FaceBook Taco page)
"Group Rules from the Admins
1
Be Kind and Courteous
We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.
2
Respect Everyone's Privacy
Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group.
3
No Hate Speech or Bullying
Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and super degrading comments just for the sake of mean-ness will not be tolerated.
4
No Promotions or Spam
Give more than you take to this group. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed."

yes, i can see that... the evolution...
and chris 'did not grind away' at folks-- thus,it grew in 'leaps and bounds' ...
that was a nice way of putting it... :)
say-- i will miss everyone, so, i will go mosey on over,
to see what micronut or lynne, can do as to keeping

Jaybro, no....its up and running and doing better than I would have thought.
151 members and people requesting to join by the hour. 1,300 posts, comments and reactions as of this morning. Come jump on board. Its not perfect....but neither was Supertopo. (No email function, no liking or relating to comments in real time, clunky photo and vieo uploading.) We'll see!
Roadie, you need to get over there man! There are some great folks already on there and your writing and contributions are some of the best on the internet. Come give it a chance. I will personally miss your stories and writing when ST folds up next week. Facebook, with all its warts and issues, could still be a great venue for you to share your creative side. Think about it at least.

I just sent my request to join.
At one point BITD when RC.com was kicking people out, and I thought people ought be allowed to "be themself" online, I created a discussion forum board via https://www.proboards.com/free-forum-features
The one I made is defunct now, but it is NOT HARD to set up and run a board with this platform. It gives quite a bit for free - certainly enough to keep the SuperMen and TacoBelles (and to stay current let's include all the gender ingredients that made up the TacoSalad and just go with that).
A part of me, being the entrepreneur is saying "Make a new forum!!!" The more reasonable part of me is reminding me that I need to remain focused on my jewelry craft work and the business end of that.
However.... I couldn't stop myself. I claimed a board I've called ClimbersTacoSalad.
IF the WideFetish doesn't want to become a place for everybody and then some of their alts - which I can understand, and if people want to avoid the streets of Facebook - which I definitely understand, and IF people WANT a discussion forum board - I will set it up and continue, and ask for a few volunteers to help Admin/Moderate.
If not, then I won't.

Hey Roadie, the ST email function is messed up. The trick to finding the group is to search in the seach tab UNDER the "groups" tab on Facebook. Searching for it under the general use search-bar wont find it. my email is emailthejetts@gmail.com if you have any other questions. I hate the big monster of Facebook just as much as the next guy but its a good venue for sharing climbing and creative stoke and there's already tons of ST folks over there.
