Firstly many thanks Chris and RJ for keeping Supertopo running for 18 years. And also many thanks to a myriad of Supertopoists including Tarbuster, Ezra Ellis, micronut, Bad Climber, Marlow, wingnut, donini, Munge Climber, mouse from merced, Nick Danger, Gnome, the inimitable Reilly and many many more for their ace contributions to the forums over the years and for taking the time to post some kind comments on my wee videos. Anyway I'll try and sign up to one of the new SuperTaco forums once the dust settles and if anyone wants to keep up with my climbing vids (more one armed climbing craziness coming soon) then you can subscribe here:

A thread that I posted a couple of days ago appears to have been deleted by management. It was soberly written and asked the question about the possible benefits the Suoertopo brand might have accrued from the forum keeping it in the public eye. Deletion of the thread seems to me to have been inappropriate.
Leaving for the Black Canyon soon, no internet....goodbye.

I am definitely planning to be online Friday night right up to lights out - which thank god I'm three hours ahead and will be a reasonable 9pm here - and watching the last posts.
I want to thank Chris and RJ for giving us the time to digest the reality that ST is going dark. It reminds me of how, when your beloved pet is terminal and the vet knows you didn't fully grasp this even though from anyone else's eye it was obvious, and that you need time to accept it, so they don't just say "He's dying, put him out of his misery."
Their announcement allowed us time to gather here on the thread and talk it out, make some plans and prepare. It's hard to believe the countdown to the end of participation is coming so soon, but really they have set things up so there WILL be a continuum. The site will still be accessible, and we CAN continue any thread with a link to the beginning part on Supertopo. That's pretty cool.

Apogee its all good. Just wanted to point out this was a very successful forum by many definitions. Whether or not it made money is not really for us, the end users, to evaluate or determine just how to apply the accounting methods used, that reveal some kind of financial "bottom line". It's the gems of this forum that made it successful and gave so much of themselves into it.
I certainly do not count myself in that pool; we all know who the good ones were.

I'm curious to know was there one specific picture that someone got mad about? Any specific details about what was in the picture and the person that filed the suit? Art work? Someone's likeness? Sued by an individual? Sued by a big company that claims to have copy rights?
This could turn into the perfect crime on other forums. I take a picture. My partner posts the pic on a forum. I sue the forum for having my property on their site. I split the settlement with my partner. Kind of like the arrangement that Clint Eastwood had with Tucos on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

You won't have to rely on a screen shot. The text (and banter) is not going to just go "poof" and gone. Only the pictures removed.
