I was near the Shuteye Area this past weekend so I decided to drive up to the dirt road that's directly off Minarets just past rock creek campground.
I got 100 yards in until a downed tree stopped my progress. The snow levels are amazingly normal and the area is in full spring super bloom mode. The flowers are going nuts.
My offroad club is headed up memorial day weekend and we'll bring a few chainsaws to clear our way into big sleep. I have not called the forest service yet to check on Whiskey Falls middle entrance. I have no idea if the big washout from two years ago has been repaired or not.

Good to know the washout has been fixed. Down here in LA County they don't fix our dirt roads for years.
This year we are upping our game. People in my 4x4 club including myself took our chainsaw certifications. We'll be bringing two 40" long bar chainsaws this year. Hoping to make quicker progress than years past.
Anyone know the status of the other two roads into shuteye area just above north fork?

I may be in yosemite the week after shuteye. In that case I will not be able to post before we say goodbye to this great forum.
I will post up on mountainproject in the Southern California Forum.
My 4x4 club will be going regardless of weather and I hope to get the trees cleared from minarets road into big sleep / brown's meadow by this friday, May 24th.
Any LOCALS? know what the road condition is for the whiskey falls trail into big sleep from big fork?

Bring a lot of gas for your chainsaws for the road up to big sleep. The amount of trees down this year is crazy. In low snow years we have also been stopped by snow up to big sleep for Memorial day weekend. Good luck, have fun, and thanks for clearing the roads.
Post some pictures before the forum dies!
BTW, has the road out of North Fork up to big sleep been repaired (Pecanpaw (Sp?)

Heading up tonight after work. Small change of plans, we will be heading in through pekinpah / whiskey falls entrance to big sleep rather than the minarets road entrance up the hill.
Regardless, I'll post pics and follow up on Supertaco Refugees group in fb and on the mountainproject southern california forum fo non facebookers.
And yes Jeff, wall time in YNP next week all week. Hoping the weather will hold out for Dave and I.

Made it to Big Sleep via Whiskey Falls/Peckinpah trail. The snow was challenging and all of us got stuck at some point. Lots of winching and chainsawing. The road is clear of trees but the snow will keep most vehicles out for awhile.

Snow came in hard today so we decided to leave before coming down became more interesting.
