Ambulances Helicopters, rumors of groundfall, Head/ back injuries, no helmet (?) anyone got the scoop? Or general outline even?

31-ish y.o. male, scrambling Sinestra starting pillar, fell before placing gear while at/on weird corner atop pillar, fell 20’-25’, landed on back & head. Broken back, neck (no spinal cord damage), head injury (no helmet). Many folks at the crag helped with carryout down trail to LZ after pilot attempted a bold 1-skid touchdown beneath accident site. Flown to GJ; currently in ICU. Improving, last I heard, but head injury is real.

Hey y’all, I believe this was me. I want to put a very public thanks out there to everyone who helped get me out. Unfortunately I’m still piecing together everything that happened as I’ve been working with amnesia since this accident happened. If you were there, PM me and please let me buy you a beer. I don’t want to open this up into a public commentary forum on what I may have done wrong since I really don’t remember anything from this climb or the days afterwards. What I do want to do is extend a huge hand in gratitude for all of the climbers out there that are learning first responder techniques and have the skills needed to help people out of emergencies. I’d be paralyzed or worse otherwise. So this is me thanking with my whole heart everyone who has helped me out of the sh#t over the years. Y’all are awesome and inspirational!

Thanks y’all. I’m happy to share what I can when I find more out, especially since I’m trying to learn and grow from this as much as possible. It feels like I’ve been given an incredible opportunity and I want to use it wisely. For now I’m working through rehabilitation at the hospital. I’m excited to be able to experience the outdoors again in the future since it does give me so much and I feel very lucky that I’ll be able to do it on my own power when I’m ready to.

I'm glad to see the injured is still with us and on the road to recovery.
I'm curious about the response to the accident. How was it organized? I assume someone called. Where was the call made from, and what was the number that was called to request a heli rescue?

Right on Haeger, glad to hear from you.
We've all done questionable things, sometimes we get away with it, sometimes we don't. Climbers are inherently risk takers. And, I think, we are better off for it. Yep, even if we die. The life leading up to that fatal moment will have been infinitely more satisfying than a life spent in the relentless pursuit of safety , security, and the avoidance of risk.
Here's to becoming a more intelligent risk taker . . .
