the population needs to stabilize and reduce to a sustainable level where there is enough to go around without poisoning the planet.
Unfortunately there’s no economic system where that works, so therefore it will never happen. War, disease and famine are the only forces that will counteract. All wars prior are basically about resources, and there will be more. JLP, there is an economic system where that works.
It's called modern western (a.k.a. capitalist) society.
With a balanced migration (when immigration =< emigration) it guarantees slow decrease of a population.

Interesting listen as part of the 3/22/19 npr show On the Media from Kathleen Belew about why speaking of and thinking about events such as the CHCH shooting as acts of a 'lone gunman' potentially both trivializes the worldwide movement that creates these perpetrators, and plays into the actual designs of that movement to keep its scope, methods, and goals opaque.
