This is an account of the situation:

"Sources indicate that multiple casualties have occurred at the Masjid Al Noor near Deans Ave and Palazzo Ln due to a mass shooting. The specific number of deaths and injuries at the mosque have not been initially released, although media sources have said that between nine and 30 people were killed at the two mosques, the other mosque being the Linwood Masjid on Linwood Ave near Buckleys Rd. Dozens of others have reportedly been injured. Police have arrested at least four suspects, although additional suspects remain at large. Christchurch residents have been advised to remain indoors as the search continues. Police have also advised the public to avoid all mosques across the country as a precaution. Follow police instructions and avoid the area."

I left Christchurch for Blenheim in March 2011 after a major earthquake killed around 160 people. While I'm obviously physically safe, my thoughts are chaotic at best

I can now confirm that 40 people were shot dead. Obviously, that toll could rise in the coming hours and days.

I have been aware since the 1st news briefs
a horror show~
feel free to post here Avery
we are a human race that at present times is disgraceful
I have children who I shield this from
& I'm up early to pre-set what they watch to start a very important weekend for them
I need them to feel strong safe & confident

My condolences, Avery, to your countrymen and women (and children) who have suffered this tragedy, and to the Muslim community there, and for the heartbreak and pain at the hands of those who proffer from or practice such malevolence.
