While I've climbed both of these routes I'm really glad I wasn't on them yesterday (2/11/19):

Found this somewhere. Makes my skin crawl when I look at it.
Took the rope off too soon.

A mixed route on El Cap is long overdue.

Dang!! I remember standing at the base, years ago, when similar ice formations were starting to shed little chunks. Looking up at them, they looked like tiny pieces of confetti floating down, until they got closer. When they hit the ground around me, I could feel the ground shake from their impact. They were like little bombs. Any one of them would've taken a person out.

How about car sized blocks? February of 1982 we did Tangerine trip. Several large storms hit that year and when it warmed up during the day, car sized blocks would freight-train off somewhere near Zodiac and crash with thunderous roars on the talus below. At first it scared the crap out of me and then I felt lucky that we could be that close and not get nailed. The impression is still vivid in my memory. Yikes!

January 30 - February 4, 1971 Dawn Wall second ascent

Six foot pillars of ice (giant icicles) came crashing down the face on occasion. We only got hit by small pieces - no harm.

^^^ Wayno and Don Lauria - you win! The pieces falling around me were only about the size of gallon milk jugs; deadly, but not 6' fangs of falling ice. Yikes!

^^^^ Good form. The "Daffy" could be a little stronger. 8.4

God damn would that be fun and terrifying all at the same time.

Cheers!
