I saw a San Francisco Chronicle article about a helicopter rescue of two people east of North Dome.

Was this near the North Dome Gully? The story headline said they were rescued from a "crevasse".

The Gully's role as an exit strategy for the Royal Arches seems to make it a perennial spot of trouble. Ironically, it's really not that difficult. You just need to keep going along the almost level rim, until you wind up with only two options: going uphill, or turning 150 degrees to the right and going down the Gully. The only steep spots you should confront are after making the U-turn.

The footage shows the pickup at the brink of a big cliff.
"East of North Dome" is consistent with that - could be in the Basket Dome area.
Perhaps they had intended to descend the Snow Creek Trail but got off route.

Alcohol was involved, or pot, or stoopidity, or all three.

kinda overkill, seems like a waste of resources. Why not get a SAR hiker up there to walk them down?

SAR people get paid from a different budget probably.

It was a CHP helicopter so it’s the state budget and not federal.

According to the NPS FB, the rescue was in two stages. First, the rescuers got the hikers out of the "crevasse" they were stuck in. Once they were on relatively level, open ground, the helicopter was able to hoist them and fly them back to the Meadow. The video shows them being hoisted after they were out of the "crevasse."

It sounds like they used the chopper so they could get everyone out before the weather turned.

It appears it was the CHP that said they were in a "wedged in a crevasse." The NPS said the rescue was tricky because they were in "technical terrain."

The terrain might be partway down the "Death Slabs" version of North Dome Gully, if the victims descended immediately without traversing east.
But I believe there is lots of terrain like this, over by Basket Dome, etc.
