Trump says he will almost 'definitely' declare a national emergency for border wall
As the president heads to the border, he gave the strongest sign yet that he may take extreme action to achieve his campaign promise.
By REBECCA MORIN 01/10/2019 11:10 AM EST Updated 01/10/2019 12:00 PM EST
President Donald Trump on Thursday gave the strongest signal yet that he will declare a national emergency in an effort to secure billions of dollars for a border wall, as negotiations on Capitol Hill to reopen the federal government continue to flounder.
"I have the absolute right to declare a national emergency," Trump told reporters outside the White House on his way to McAllen, Texas, adding that his lawyers advised him that he could. "If this doesn't work out...I would almost say definitely,"
And then let the protracted lawsuits begin.....

Is CMac a closet Trump supporter or something and can't stand seeing his man exposed for the creeper he is?
Seriously though, our country is in a pickle, no matter which political bent you are. This isn't "Obama is an ape" level poop being sucked into the fan. By the way, why were THOSE political threads never a problem.

As Americans we have so many more things in common that should bond us than separate us. It continually surprises me how intense and angry some folks are over what may in fact be minor things. I've felt that it's been that way for the last 4 or 5 Presidents and it seems worse than ever now. I admit the whole President Nixon thing made me spit angry fire too, perhaps no one is immune I suppose.
Warm regards to all

I ain't even an American, but I've lived in your country, and loved it, for almost 20 years. And what Bill says is so true...
You have so much in common, so much to be thankful for, and so much to look forward to, that you can't let a small minority of losers turn you against yourselves.
Yeah, I'm outta here for the last time next week, but part of me will always be here, and the thought of that part being ripped to shreds...
There is common ground. All you have to do is cast aside the call, put out by a relatively small number, for diviseness...
Good luck my friends.

Not anything in the national news on the subject tonight, but per this article in Time, the Texas border town that Trump visited yesterday, & other towns along the border, don't think they need more walls. They need better checkpoint security.
On Thursday, Trump hosted a roundtable at a McAllen Border Patrol station with Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, local law enforcement officers and local officials including McAllen Mayor Jim Darling. Displayed in front of the President was a table filled with seized contraband, which included over $300,0000 in cash, “gold-plated and diamond encrusted” machine guns and large amounts of methamphetamine and heroin. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents pointed out all of the items were spotted or apprehended at various legal ports of entry and checkpoints, including Laredo POE.
CBP officers also showed Trump blown-up photos of tunnels that were dug to get guns and drugs across the border. Neither border patrol agents nor President Trump explained how a border wall would help stop the flow of drugs through tunnels and legal ports of entry.
McAllen Mayor Jim Darling, who is not affiliated with a political party, tells TIME that even if it was not Trump’s intention, the roundtable appeared to make the case for increased funding at legal ports of entry instead of the wall.
“I thought that showed that ports of entry are working,” he says. “I understand he’s trying to make a point, I’m a little theatrical myself, most politicians are. I understand that, I understand why someone would say ‘Okay, those were all confiscated at the point of entry, so what’s that gotta do with people crossing the river?'”
Meanwhile, Julie Hillrichs, spokeswoman for the Texas Border Coalition, a group of border mayors (including Darling), county judges and border communities focused on issues that impact border quality of life for more than 2.5 million people, tells TIME the Coalition believes the real way to increase security at the border would not be a wall, but increased investment in the legal ports of entry that already exist in their area.
“We have never supported the wall,” Hillrichs says. “The Border Coalition has consistently over the years stated we believe the wall is a wasted investment.”

There has been some Twitter chatter about two Grand Juries convened, one almost finished up.
Please god, please let this be the start of the end.
Edit: Above written in error. It was a RT of an old post, not current.

Yes, I worry that we've all collectively gone insane, and the whole Trump is a Russian Asset is "Obama's a Muslim" on steroids.
That would actually be BEST. I would breathe a humiliated and embarrassed, but grateful, sigh of relief if that came to be the case. I would take whatever ribbing people could dish out. Nastiness - no. I don't think I have been nasty, even in my most vocal statements, and I wouldn't tolerate abuse, but being laughed at - gladly.
It doesn't look like that is the case, unfortunately, and to really be honest, I fear for what is coming. I don't know what the world will be like "after Trump."
About the only good thing that may come of this is the awareness that war no longer relies on feeding young men into a killing machine to be fought. Let's hope we are able to get to a place where we can counter offensively rather than be annihilated.
