On TV the other night I saw an ad for Tin Cup Whiskey--"The Mountain Whiskey"---that featured a variety of 'climbing' scenes. It was a treasure trove of clichés and hilarious techniques in 30 seconds. It made Cliffhanger seem accurate in comparison. Anybody else seen it? It would be a fun contest to see who can identify the largest number of 'falsehoods' in it--sort of like listening to a Trump speech.

#1 Nailin a fence post as a piton.

Sounds a bit like the FA of Devil's Tower (at least the FA by a white man.)

Well, most whisky is made from corn so it follows that it would be sold with corn.

These are serious climbers. They haul not only whiskey to the summit, but also enough wood for a real campfire - in the form of large logs requiring a hefty splitting axe.

Back in my teens, I'd go camping over New Years. One year, it was gonna be especially cold. Single digits. While we were stocking up on Jack... or George... or Jim, my buddy picked up a bottle of Yukon Jack. The black sheep of Canadian whiskeys.

“Yukon Jack is a taste born of hoary nights, when lonely men struggled to keep their fires lit and cabins warm. Boldly flavorful yet surprisingly smooth, there is no spirit like Yukon Jack.”

Tin Cup - Yukon Jack wannabees.

That is actually how real whiskey drinkin' men climb. They don't need
all that fancy gear.

Good lord.
There's a bottle of YJ in my pantry about half-full.
It's taken at least 15 years to get to that point since every time circumstances require a two- or three-finger tumbler either as reward or therapy, I swear off it until time dulls the experience and the cycle repeats.

Pretty sure the interval is getting shorter, though, so either I'm getting used to it, my memory is failing, or the stuff just gets better with age.

Probably not the last option.

Its not a fencepost; it is angle iron.

I use it too.

Apple Jack has been around since the beginning of our country. Good stuff!

The whiskey ad - the producer, director, actors and Tin Cup should be embarrassed.

I'm sure your climbing partners are having second thoughts. :)
