Just saw Jason Isbell live last night for the first time. He's one of the best, if not the best songwriters in the business right now. His last three albums have all been amazing from beginning to end. Beautiful melodies, exceptional lyrics, solid musicianship, and socially conscious.

I was there too, love the acoustics at Eccles.

Been a fan since his DBT days, just wish his wife, Amanda Shires, or former bandmate Shonna were there. His harmonies with either one would have been icing on the cake.

I came about Isbell via Todd Snider a few years ago.
He is definitely at the top of the class for modern singer/songwriters, on par with Prine and JJW.

Missed this thread...
Amazing song writer IMHO.

It's hard to think that someone can write so many great tunes. And his nod to Prine and that influence on his songwriting is telling.

Here's a pretty cool interview along with a bit more electric sounds...

...and this performance (especially of) If We Were Vampires is especially deep.

Looks like we're not the only ones that appreciate him...

And I dig that Prine was named Artist of the Year.

Thanks for sharing that, Delhi Dog. Great to see Molly Tuttle won Instrumentalist of the Year (I take lessons from her dad). She's opening for Jason at the Ryman next month. I saw Jason Isbell last year - what an amazing songwriter and performer.

Thanks for that mike ( et al)! You never steer me wrong.

Full disclosure, Mike first turned me on John Prine almost 40 yrs ago. Sealed the deal when we drove down and saw him in ft Collins....

Pleasant surprise to find this thread here! Still haven't seem him live but would love to.

When I first hear of him from my brother I made a Pandora Jason Isbell station and found myself skipping everything but his songs. They're so great to actually listen to, rather than have on as background music.
