So sorry to hear about Mark. There is truly an artists quality to Tollhouse which needs to be attributed to Mark. It wasn’t about grades or time or coolness, but about just enjoying the f*#k out of our own backyard and celebrating the friends we got to mee while doing it.
I felt so lucky to meet new friends here in the early 80’s that had a view on life that was about friends and adventure. Mark (and so many others) set the stage of what adventuring is all about....not ruthless competition but rather ruthless and fun friendship!
If I was a little younger I would climb the traverse in rollerskates in his honor...but I think that there will be Mark Haymond adventures happening at the next tollhouse face off that re-in-tarnates (as they would say in Tollhouse) Marks spirit at that awesome place!

Let me know how I can help in celebrating this awesome dude...d.

Bump/Reminder. Anybody else thinking about coming. Looks like we have a nice crowd! Maybe its because they heard John Eleazarian is making kebabs and pilaf for everybody!

I really wanted to come but a project at work has me nailed down. I'll pass things on to Gerry Jessuran. He'd want to come tomorrow.

I was really sorry to hear the news of his passing. Mark was a fun partner for the 5-6 times we climbed together. We once crawled through manzanita below Patterson Bluff only to be turned back when we hit a poison oak forest. We retreated to Roads Gold and tried to put up a new route where I tried to stem a section of a 15'x 15' exfoliated sheet of granite that began raining on Mark. It sounded like a musical instrument went knocking on it. He calmly moved to the side and said go for it. I down climbed instead.

He will be missed.

I will be there

Mark introduced me to the world of rock climbing and all the fun that can be had in it. I've had nothing but fond days climbing at Tollhouse and then spending the afternoon chilling at the cap rock followed by ice cream in Prather with Mark.
Above all else, Mark taught me to always be having fun and not to take it all too seriously out there. Too many climbs with him to name my favorite, but there was this one time after a full day of climbing at Tollhouse that Mark suggested that we do one more lap up Tollhouse Traverse. However this time I would lead it with nothing but Nuts and slings. True old school, just like Mark. Everyone knows the route is only 5.5.... but that was the lead of my life.
