That is a tough hand to be dealt Ron. I suspect your mom is an extraordinary person as you ended up as one.

Some drifts are good. Yes, this is a thread dedicated to the impact Tom had on us as a climber and a man, but I suspect that if Tom were still able to reply to you, he'd thank you for what you posted.

I’m sorry I never had the privilege of getting to know the great Tom Frost. I was thrilled to talk to him at the last Oakdale Festival- his grace and humor really lit up the room. Steve, please give him my love and best wishes.

Thanks Tom Frost for the most incredible influence you have given this climbing community! If the young ones care to dig deep they will be richer for learning about all you and your friends gave with joy to create the landscape of learning to climb the rock.

Peace be with you. We will all pass thru the gates of life into eternity. We are blessed by your presence. With love and hugs to you and your family. Lynne Leichtfuss

Tom Frost and Royal Robbins shared the stage at the 2013 Oakdale Climber’s Festival, where we got to see two remarkable humans and longtime friends and climbing partners. Royal, suffering from a crippling disease and giving it his all in spite of everything, and Tom, who assisted Royal in every way: interpreting questions; helping with responses; and keeping the whole affair so upbeat.

Thank you Tom for all you have done for the climbing community, and with fond memories of our trip to Bear Creek Spire those many years ago.

Haven't read the whole thread. My take on Tom Frost is similar to that of Wayne Merry. Every great man needs great people to back them up. Folks that do a lot of work but work under the the radar, accomplish great things both inside and outside of climbing.

These two gentlemen fit that bill.

heather and i had the ultimate pleasure of doing el cap in a day with tom frost around 1998 on lurking fear. i was leading every pitch, and higher up i asked tom if he wanted to lead anything. he said he was quite happy jumaring next to my wife...it was his first and only time he did el cap with a female partner. Still one of the best days of climbing and comraderie that we have ever had.
we did it in about 10 hours. tom was 65 years old at that time. i believe he shares the oldest man to do el cap in a day record with eric perlman who did the nose a few years ago, also, i believe, at age 65.

our prayers are with the frost family during this difficult time. steve schneider

Of all the old Yosemite pioneers of the '60's, Tom was only one of 2 I never had the pleasure of meeting. But his "good guy" reputation is something that will live on even after his passing. Maybe we should all learn a lesson in humility from this fine gentleman? I'm sorry to hear of the Hospice status of his condition, and my prayers and sympathy go to his loved ones.
