Headed up there in a couple weeks, curious if anyone has recently been and could say what the bug situation is like? Thank you

Thanks kingtut! Just curious how bad on a scale of 1-10? Bringing people with me and I want to warn them if it's pretty bad.

there were mosquitos two weeks ago in the "across the dam" camping areas
having lived a good portion of my life on the east coast I don't find the California situation very dire, vis-a-vis blood sucking insects. YMMV
the Sun is probably a more important issue

Went up yesterday climbed powerdome no mosquitoes
(never is). Walked up Dogtooth and 3 sisters Monday, moderate mosquitoes in moist areas.

Was there with Ed, I hate mosquitoes and normally deet up to prevent, didn't bother that weekend and was fine. They ate up my friend though who was scratching like a meth addict on the drive home. As always YMMV
Def not as bad as in the Valley

for two weeks before you go, eat a lot of b vitamins, especially a multi with b-5 if you can find it. it makes a difference, seems the critters do not like the flavor as much.

A thousand feet can be a lot, but this weekend at around 7000' off McKinley Grove Road I only slapped a couple. A bigger problem is the Ferguson Fire west of Yosemite, which completely blasted us with smoke this morning. Unlimited visibility at 6 am dropped to <1 mile by 9 am. It was thick enough we canceled a midmorning hike and came home a few hours early instead. Looking east from the base of the San Luis Reservoir around noon today:

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm giving this try for an upcoming Kings Canyon backpacking trip.
