This one was gut-wrenching to write. Our tribe and the world lost two beautiful men who lit up the world for two magnificent wives and their families.

That's a beautiful tribute, giving me a glimpse into the lives of wonderful people I did not have the good fortune to know. Maybe their spirits already figured out whatever the rest of us take longer to figure out in this life, and they were ready for the next level.

Thanks for the tribute. Some light shined on an unfathomable loss.

Thank you for that glimpse into their world. Amazing men, the world is a poorer place in their absence.

Thanks, Jim.

On a rainy, somber Father's Day, June 17th, only days from Jason's and Becky's anniversary, the community here in Boulder pulled together a wonderful celebration of Jason's life held at the Chautauqua auditorium beneath the Flatirons that Jason loved so much. My estimate is that 3-400+ people showed up to remember Jason and Tim and to support Becky, JJ, and their families and friends during this incredibly sad time.

Just a reminder for everyone that if you're so inclined, please consider donating to the memorial funds for both Tim and Jason:

I will always be grateful to Jim for introducing me to Tim. Tim's enthusiasm for climbing, and climbing with me was extraordinary. After an El Cap push that he had floated up, leading every pitch, I asked him, 'Do you lift weights'? He looked me in the eye and replied earnestly,'I have to'! That was quintessentially Tim. After another El Cap push I arrived on top to find Tim excitedly explaining to Kristoffer Wickstrom, our partner for the climb, about the program that he had started at his school that took kids with zero dreams of a bright professional life into the ranks of those who not only became solid citizens with great professions, but professions that helped others. Tim and I had plans for two El Cap pushes this year, (one this week). If not for Fates Right hand we likely would have been repeating this for many years to come. I already miss his frequent motivating texts and inspiring emails so very much. As well as those from Jason, who Tim introduced me to. That Jason was planning on climbing with me in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, was such a huge honor. The world is a far poorer place for having lost these two selfless and humble men.

And, if you can, donating to their Go Fund Me sites (on the post just upthread from this one), to help Tim and Jasons families would be a wonderful thing.

Thank you for that fantastic insight in to a great dude. 2 actually, but referring to Tim Klein now. Sorry to see his type ever pass from the earth, but it's nice that we all got a good bit of him, even those of us not fortunate to have known him, while he was here.

really beautifully written... breaks my heart and i didn't know them, so can't imagine how difficult this must be for those close to either...

so thank you for taking the time to do a modicum of justice to your friend's life.

and hopefully those of the taco clan with a few extra bucks take the time to donate.

no matter how it is used, even if only as an acknowledgment that there is a community of folks who are thinking about those most effected, it will have been put to good use...

Thank you for sharing such an incredible person with those of us who didn’t know him. I’m sorry you had to write this so that I could meet him, but I’m grateful that you did. You’re a great writer by the way.

That is a wonderful tribute Jim. Thank you for sharing. I was just getting to know Tim when the accident happened. We met through a mutual friend and instantly had a lot in common, both of us being teachers and climbers. I’m sad we never got to rope up but much sadder for the loss endured by his friends and family. I’d encourage more people to share their memories and to donate to help support the families left behind.
