Moab is hot, miserable and flooded with tourons. The whole world has lost its mind. I hate most everyone. I haven't been in real mountains in three years. I'm going to the Sierra. Anyone done the high route? Tips? Recommendations?
Thanks, Steve

reports of lots of snow above 10,500'

the high Sierra looked snowy from a snowless 8000' a couple of weekends ago

Frankly, lots of snow makes it a lot easier to get through the High Sierra, you avoid a lot of scree and talus hopping.

I think it's much prettier, too, than when all the snow is gone. The dry Sierra is so drab and ugly.

Crampons are not necessary, but I always found that it makes getting around quite a bit easier, especially in the mornings and in sun cups.

Of course air mattress (Thermrest) are cold on snow.

A few pics along the High Route and environs in and around YNP:

Bench Canyon

You can't go wrong. Wait a few weeks to get that sweet smell and gurgling sounds from all the creeks up there

Andy Skurka is legendary in the world of long distance hiking. Google it and you'll find loads of information.

I avoided Bishop like the plague the last few years I lived in SoCal. I'd drive side roads to the west of town to avoid driving through it. Booking a decent hotel there can be quite a challenge due to all the Euro tourists that have a month or more vacation time.

I picked up the map set from Andrew Skurka several years ago. I am planning on hiking it in early July or late August. I've done a lot of hikes on the SHR following the map set and it's been very helpful; I'm not much of a reader so the book is out. His map set has diamonds, which point you in the general direction of where you need to go.
Just did Langley and Cirque peak yesterday and very little snow or water. I went up Old Army Pass and then down to the PCT. I think I'm going to go with the July date after that.
