People make their own choice about pursuing Everest. The guy practically died the first attempt then returned- obviously it was important to him to repeat the attempt. I respect that but for the life of me I do not understand why anyone values an Everest ascent to this degree any longer. Blind paraplegics have be dragged up that thing.. There's thousands of high mountains on this planet you can challenge yourself with without jumping into that sh#t-show at Annapurna.

Truth be told if someone had a spare slot and I didn't have to pay $60,000 I'd probably give climbing Everest a shot. Why not? That said, I don't really care about it. Basically my entire body of knowledge about Everest comes from "Into Thin Air," which I recently reread. It seems that people become truly obsessed with it, maybe even people that don't otherwise really climb that much. It's like it's its own separate sport or endeavor or something. Human motivations are so interesting!
