Sasha ain't fat.
Joe ain't nice.
Fat people who eat like sh#t ain't fat because of genetics.

2 outa 3 ain't bad (I say that in spite of the fact "because" way oversimplifies a complex matter).

How about this antichrist: is the reason so many strong and dedicated sport climbers couldn't reach the levels of Sharma (who never even really trained that much) "because" of genetics? (Maybe the answer is "yes"?). Is the reason I've never climbed 5.13 "because" of genetics? (I'd say no: I'm just too lazy and undisciplined and involved in other activities and I never really cared that much about climbing 5.13 anyways). Is the reason I'm not "obese" because of genetics? Well if I don't make any effort (eat and drink what I want, when I want), I end up weighing about 180 pounds. Certainly not obese, but a bit heavy for climbing. With effort (mainly carefully controlling what I eat and drink after 6 pm) I can come down to 165. Is the reason I'm not obese "because" of genetics? (maybe "yes"?) Is the reason I'm not at my ideal climbing weight (165) because of genetics (maybe "no"?).

Cosmic,
No I am not BMAC although my understanding is that he has been working on losing weight with a program of riding and laps on the walls at a local gym.

The reason for everything negative about me is genetics. The reason for everything good about me is my extraordinary will to power.

The reason for everything bad about others is their laziness and inability to exercise self control. The reason for everything good about others is simply lucky genetics.

Clear enough?

Doooood. Couldn't agree more. This is pretty much my lean and mean weight. I'm 6'4", however. Still, that's a lot o' meat to haul up the stone. My absolute lightest was after a three month cycling tour of the Rocky Mtns. in 2012. I think I was 174. I'm pretty sure I was heavier than that when I graduated high school back in the Bronze Age.

Re. genetics and performance: Big fellas can climb damn hard. I believe Potter was 6'5"? But he wasn't at the absolute top of the scale. He was more about boldness, style and speed than maximum difficulty. Big guys like us make GREAT rowers, however. Of course, I'm near the bottom for NBA players where height really helps. I tend to have weak tendons on my long, skinny limbs. I'm pretty sure that's genetic. Five point twelve is probably off the table, and I only dabble in five point elevens, and I'm totally okay with that. You've got to make peace with who you are at some point. Still, I think I can make some improvements before I'm shredding with a walker and adult diapers.

Sasha ain't fat!

We choose, right. But what are the processes that lead us to choose, that lead us to our choice? That weíre each so sure that itís not genetics and that instead itís our own awesome free will doing the choosing strikes me as somewhat similar to the way that we each choose to believe that what I believe is actually true and not just something I (choose to) believe, and if you believe differently, well you must just be wrong. Maybe because youíre an idiot and Iím a genius. Walk around believing that youíre wrong all day and see how well that works for you.

We pretty much unanimously all choose to walk on our feet too, at least those of us who can walk at all.

So sure, choose to believe that your belief is truth, and not just an evolved system of brain processes that works to your evolutionary advantage as a way to optimally direct your behavior in a changing environment. Itís been working for us so far, even if it is starting to show some cracks in the system.

Memory transplant in snails. Yea right. Thatís about as believable as climate change. I think Iím supposed to remember that I came up with that belief based on my free will.

What will those snails come up with next?!

Are you suggesting snails are the slimey protuberance of trans dimensional superbeings who built this planet as an experiment? That does not bode well for me and my salt shaker.
