I'm sure it is all the fault of the Republicans, since they hate those liberal college-educated voters.

Must be a recent thing. Hate to burst your bubble again, but Democrats and liberals don't have a lock on college-educated voters. (FWIW)

In any event, good reading:

Lituyu! Re your spew:

Per your charts, the most recent figures on college-educated voters shows a leaning of 37% Democrat to 31% Republican.

That's easily enough reason for Republicans to discourage kids from attending college.

Yes, I suppose the children of Republicans will be attending college in decreasing numbers--since only the children of elitist Democrats can now afford to go. :-)

Truth is, college looks a lot like big hospitals nowadays. More about ribbon-cutting ceremonies and less about learning/patient care.

One election does not a trend make. That was the point. Apparently lost. Dig deeper. I know you can.

Read Fritz's original premise re college-educated voters and college affordability. Context is difficult for you sometimes, I know.

Must be a recent thing then. Hate to burst your bubble again, but Democrats don't have a lock on college-educated voters.

The problem is, that the website you link does not, itself, agree with your underlying premise:

Americans overall are better educated than they were a quarter-century ago, and this change also has had a profound impact on the composition of the two parties. The share of voters who have a college degree or more education has increased by 10 percentage points since 1992, from 23% to 33%. Better-educated voters are increasingly identifying as Democrats and expressing liberal attitudes across a range of issues.

Since 1992, the share of Democratic and Democratic-leaning registered voters with at least a college degree has increased sharply, from 21% to 37%. Among Republicans, 31% have at least a college degree, up only slightly from 28% in 1992. As a consequence, a greater proportion of Democrats than Republicans now have a college degree or more education.

What you seem to be ignoring is the TREND, which has changed the numbers a great deal.

The other two big demographic trends: There are a lot of teens ageing into the voting block, and they seem motivated. Not towards Republicans. 90,000 have pre-registered to vote, just in California.

We had about 45,000 people die of opiate OD last year, and this seems to be a disease of less educated, less wealthy white people----in other words, Republicans.

Sorry, Ken, but you blew it with that last sentence. I thought libs like you were peddling the notion that Republicans were the wealthy ones? You can't have it both ways.

In any event, the level of arrogance found among urban elites is often seeded with the notion that the vast majority of college grads vote for Democrats. Fritz was employing this device--and the numbers just don't bear it out.

As for my original reply--"must be a recent thing. Hate to burst your bubble again, but Democrats and liberals don't have a lock on college-educated voters. (FWIW)"--well, again, I don't see where the aforementioned liberal arrogance is earned. The 2008 election saw more college-educated voters cast for McCain than for Obama. Do two cycles make a trend? Who knows.

The other side of the blade is this: Fewer HS grads are voting for Democrats. Are you abandoning them? No doubt Republicans are happy to have them--their votes look just like the ones cast by smarm with a credential. People don't like being maligned, mocked and looked down upon. And you Dems are doing a fine job of alienating your former base.

How affordable was college in the 1960's?

Whaal you could go with a small NDEA loan and part-time work.

Almost free.

Russian Bot propangada

They worked the Jade Helm Conspiracy in 2015
with our very own Ron Anderson repeating the bot conspiracy
"They're coming fer us"

Former CIA director says Russian bots amplified Jade Helm conspiracies

https://thinkprogress.org/russian-bots-amplified-jade-helm-conspiracies-6caa41073c08/

In 2015, a new conspiracy theory swept across much of the American South and Southwest, claiming that then-President Barack Obama was planning on using an upcoming military exercise to install martial law across the country.

Known as Jade Helm, the exercise took part over a number of states, including Texas. The conspiratorial concerns were sufficient enough to convince Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to send the Texas State Guard to monitor the exercises — a move that a plurality of Texans agreed with.

In other words, Repubs will fall for any lie if you attach liberal, Hillary or Obama to it

Just look at the crazy sh#t Litya claims liberals are responsible for!
High college costs, low wages, high cost of living are ALL because of Republican policies, and the poorest of the poor vote Republican, they VOTE FOR Lower wages and fewer jobs

Can you explain why?
I can, they're dupes, that's why.

Fewer HS grads are voting for Democrats. Are you abandoning them?
That's some crazy speculation

The Repubs have abandoned reality, so why the F would you say the Dems have abandoned them.

The Democratic Party is their only hope, the Repubs are hell bent on making this country a hell hole so the rich can use them as slave labor

well, zbrown

I went to college in the 60s, it took me six years instead of four to get a Bachelors

in addition to tuition and books, I had to pay food and rent
while making $2 an hour pumping gas at 30 below zero in the Minnesota winters

so yeah, I disagree, college was not even close to being "free", for me anyway

perhaps your experience was different?

after the last election, republicans should be stripped of their voting rights for the next 100 years as punishment for the world wide damage and embarrassment inflicted by this cheese nug we call our president.

Student debt has now overtaken both car loans and credit card debt as the second largest type of debt ($1.48 trillion), behind mortgages. Student loans cannot be ended through bankruptcy, they will always be there. Student debt carries interest rates of 7% to 8%, mortgages, @ about 4.50%, car loans @ about 3.5%.

This is a huge problems that will plague some borrowers for the rest of their lives. Average student debt in 2017 was about $39,400. Average monthly payment is $351/month. Over 11% of loans are in default (90 days late).

A lot of students never finish college but still owe the money; not every student should go to college; there are other options leading to reasonable incomes such as trade schools or apprenticeships, or attending junior college to see if you can have the right stuff.

I, as a parent, have been very fortunate with college education for my daughter as she attended Smith College on a full scholarship, to the tune of about $200,000 for the four years. She then got her MS at the University of Vermont, again on a scholarship. She worked all summers for spending money. We couldn't have afforded to pay for this and I never would have allowed her to get in debt over college.

The cost of a college education is f*#king ridiculous.

Fact is, school is still fairly affordable--especially if the student goes to a public university, stays in-state, and finishes on time. More so if he or she lives at home and/or completes the first two years at a community college.

Truth is, the marketing of "the college experience" by Big University Inc. racks up a huge part of the bill.

Americans overall are better educated than they were a quarter-century ago,

I can think of quite a few metrics that could dispel that assertion. They might be packing
more sheepskins but they’re at least, if not more, stoopid.
What do they eat? Crap.
What do they watch on TV? Crap.
What movies do they watch? Crap.
How do they drive? Like crap.
How do they save for their future? Like crap.
