Congressman Shipley, er, Stewart....worse-sounding than Congressman McClintock of CA.

Quote:
Though Stewart seems to ignore climate change science (while his company profits by teaching it), he does not ignore the fossil fuel industry. In fact he is quite sympathetic to the plight of oil and gas companies. His campaign website (link is external)claims:

"I am the CEO of a company that works extensively with independent energy producers. I understand how difficult it is to get a drilling permit on federal lands. It is painfully slow, incoherently arbitrary, and always expensive."

The profit potential is apparently worth it or the fossil fuel companies would not be interested.

I know people who make their livelihood off tourist, in Utah. I feel bad for them. I personally will not patronize Utah until the state changes it's environmental policies.

Yeah, this is bogus, IMO worse in some ways than the monument shrinkage.

Local oversight of national parks is a very bad idea. Another piece of this is paving the Hole in the Rock road to make it easier for the LDS folks to get to and run their own private park at Hole in the Rock.

Then you are part of the problem, just like them.

why would I spend money in a state that has policies I disagree with?
Jay, I know you live there, but you are not being objective.

Interesting topic. I try to avoid spending money in Arizona for same reason. Is that effective? maybe not. There is also "strategic spending", spending money at local businesses and making it clear that I am there for the amazing pristine wilderness resources.
