Donation sent. Hoping for healing and that Jim gets out of that hospital soon.
When a friend needs help, I don't try to determine whether (a) their politics align with mine; (b) whether they could have avoided the situation they are in; or (c) whether there are others in the world who might be more in need.
I would encourage everyone to continue to help Jim out.
And if you are not inclined to do so--at the very least--don't kick a good man when he is down.

Interestingly enough, the attitude of saying why should I help someone if they won't/ never help(ed) themself is the exact same logic of the political party fleet seems to be speaking against. Food for thought.

Ron" Jim is dealing with liver and kidney issues. One day he is realatively "good", the next, not so much. He is in the best care for his situation and if they can continue to treat Jim, I think the prognosis is guarded that he'll improve. We had a great visit today.
Again Jim said to thank everyone for all that they've done, he appreciates it all.

Jim is one of us. He has opened a lot of doors for us. If you have climbed a big wall. You have stood on his shoulders. We don't share political and some other views. He has always been helpful, friendly, and fascinating to me.
I don't have to share someone's view's to wish them the best and try to pitch in to help.

Jim - you're a couple of years too old to have been a direct inspiration in my climbing youth, not htat it would have much good anyway ....

During a short work stint valet parking for a tennis tournament in Palm Desert back in the 90's, the Bridwells graciously let a bunch of us crash in their yard. They fed us and made us feel right at home, except for their pot-belly pig that kept bluff charging my girlfriend. Haha..... Good times!

Jim is a truly unique man. His accomplishments are without parallel; his spirit of adventure changed the sport and provided motivation for all of us. What some may not know is his generosity, guidance and sense of community. As a teen in Camp 4 he showed me around the Camp 4 bouldering circuit when both he and I knew I was never going to become a climbing luminary. When I had no place to stay at Squaw - "Hey, Kim and I have a place.." I haven't seen Jim since we bumped into each other in a climbing gym in Sacramento years ago - but the same friendly guy and that was many years after my Yosemite days.
So, while it is great that we can all pitch in according to our ability to do so, I am at a loss to understand how it has come to this. How many dreams has Jim inspired? Dreams that translated into the massive sales of climbing/outdoor clothing and equipment. Could there a "time machine" sponsorship? Paying it backward for what he contributed? Would it be so difficult for a reasonable annuity to be established that would take away the financial pressure? If "consideration" must flow, I would think Bridwell or "The Bird" articles reminiscent of his trademark paisley clothing or some piece of equipment would sell with some decent marketing that explains something of the man and what he has meant to climbing in Yosemite and beyond. Maybe beginning with the middle-80s Rolling Stone article for a bit of history and color. Or Jim's writings. The names of the companies that could easily solve or at least ease the problem so Jim and his family can focus on the serious health issues are obvious to all.
The fact that we cannot or will not really help of our icons in need is both disturbing and dumbfounding to me. Where is the American Alpine Club in any of this? Other sports organizations do something for their athletes in need.

I would love to see a retroactive sponsorship, however the reality is that the new generation is not at all familiar with the history, much less the names. Old farts are just not a big demographic in the marketing game. Go to any gym and see how many people recognize "The Bird". Bad ass aid in uncharted territory is lost in the translation to social media.

I mentioned this very concept in another thread, of companies that have profited off Jim pony up and make some comprimising contribution. He and I have talked about lost income in the past numerous times, but Jim being Jim shrugged it off. He mentioned a few companies who have had his ideas, inventions and advise see a favorable profit. Perhaps a clothing company( not Patagonia)....a rope manufactor.....and a company that makes climbing hardware take a look at their gains from Jim's work and dig in their pockets. What's a full page ad in the leading mags, what's one day at the OR cost, what's a percentage of one product they cashed in on from him? Small numbers in the big picture, but sizable in contributions to his plight.
