Late 90's A5/TNF double ledge and fly. The ledge has been used for a total of 5 nights on the wall. One buckle on the tensioner is cracked but still works fine. The fly was never deployed. This ain't a fire-sale so make a reasonable offer.

Also, 3 haul bags. TNF/A5 Grade VII, Fish Grade 5, Fish Atom Smasher. All bags are in great shape. Only the A5 has been used for 5 days. $200 for all 'em.

Last, Bluewater 11mm x 60M Double Dry dynamic (new) and Bluewater 11mm x 60M static (used for toprope a few times). $150 for both

Here!

That is a good ledge, an early A5 North Face model, fabric parts made in the Chico California factory personally supervised by me, the frame built by Jason Brooks in San Leandro (Jason is the finest portaledge frame builder, incredible attention to detail, in fact he is currently building our D4 frames in this current round of portaledge building).

It will be one of the more bomber A5 Alpine Doubles out there, the only variable is the fabric, depends how it was stored for the past 20 years—humid or dry conditions?—, but the urethane claycote coating on that expedition fly is bomber stuff and should be doing well.

Factory taped seams and some of the lightweight Uretek fabric for reinforcement. Nice one.

That haulbag is also a good one, waterproof closure, tuck away shoulder straps, bomber reinforcements.

Can you weigh the ledge accurately? I can tell you a bit more. Also a pic of the haulsack would be good—all Uretek or the combo ballistic/Uretek?

That era mentioned here: http://www.bigwalls.net/portaledgeHistory.html

Cool. Everything was stored in my garage. The ledge material is flawless. The coating inside the fly is flaking off. Apparently it's best to flake it all off and then paint in a new coating (thanks Kurt!).

I've got a solid offer and this thing will be gone by end of the weekend so 'bid' away.

The ledge with the bag is 11.5 lbs.

Some concern for the fly--might be ok for light duty, perhaps bring a bivy sack. Is your garage high humidity?

If need be, Runout makes a good clone of the A5 Alpine Double based on my patterns and materials, so his flys will be the exact same size, of course.

Judging from the haulsack, that might actually be one of a small batch of about 30 A5/TNF ledges we made in Flagstaff in 1997, which were built to prepare for the lull in production when we made the move to San Leandro. We were able to transfer the manufacturing from Flagstaff to Chico with great family run industrial sewing shop within 4 months, and the one you have might be one of those produced in Flagstaff for TNF as part of my A5 asset sale agreement.

The Chico TNF/A5 haulsacks had a Uretek reinforcement at the bottom of the bag, made it more durable for hauling.

Well there you have it. Longevity test. That was the best fabric coating possible to obtain back in 1997, a 1.5 ounce “claycote” urethane coating. Just goes to show that 20 years is the lifespan, I suppose, for nylon fabric coatings. Not sure if today’s coatings are any better, though now there are more choices in laminates rather than coatings.

I would be interested to hear how the recoating stuff works, maybe that is the answer to 20 year old fabrics.
