Woke me up in SF. That first big jolt had me thinking is this the big one? Kind of miss living in "tornado alley", at least you had an inkling that something bad & scary might be ready to go down...

^^ always my first reaction when I feel the shaking start in the bay. “ is this IT?” I just grab the ladies hand and hope this is not the big one...

I live on a boat, and it was louder than hell. I don't get people who prefer tornadoes or hurricanes. Our earthquakes might be a "surprise", but when they're over, we know where to find our stuff...its on the floor, not two counties over...or in Georgia.

I'm up in Seattle, so obviously didn't feel this one. But like a lot of you, I grew up with earthquakes as part of life.
A few years ago, I was down in SF doing some workshops for a tech organization. One night I was sound asleep in my room high up in the downtown Hilton, and around 3:15 am, or so, the building started swaying pretty significantly. It eventually woke me up, and I lay there in bed thinking, first, "Where am I right now?" You know...that whole thing that happens when you travel a lot. And second, "Oh yeah...SF." And then I thought, "Oh...it's just an earthquake. That's what happens in SF." And I went right back to sleep.
That was the one that really messed up the wine country.

4.5 double jolt? No fun, but not serious. The jolts are scary though.

this is not out of the ordinary for the san ramon valley. I have lived here most of my life and have experienced many earthquakes . A man from the USGS explained it the best. He said that the San Ramon valley historically has what he calls swarms of minor quakes. This I know to be true. As a kid I rattled around in a school desk on a hard linoleum floor for a few weeks. I am thankful that the pressure is letting go slowly instead of all at once.

Too small...I'm waiting for the one that turns that patch of desert I bought in Nevada into multi million dollar beachfront property.
