Trump’s supposed new restrictions on travel to Cuba have actually made it easier for climbers to go there legally. Stay, eat, interact with ordinary Cubans and climbers, and take climbing gear and provide donations to sustain the Cuban climbers. Don’t stay in expensive government hotels or go on tours run by Cuban Army or its enterprises, and Cuba remains open for direct, convenient flights from a dozen U.S. cities. It’s that easy.
