Some serious caca running downwind in 45-60 kts of wind in the Great Southern Ocean! Day in and day out in strong winds, mountainous seas and pucker factor to the max!

what was the point of scouring those marks off the mast their at the end?

Leave no trace

of yer phukup. OK, all I can figure is it was some minor repair to the
carbon fibre.

What got me was that it looked like they were running under just the
jib at about 15 kts!

Prepping the base for a combo of epoxy and most likely riveting the track back into position. Some incredible epoxies exist that can applied even under water!

Total clusterf-k of a gybe. Main hung up on the backstay, broke every batten. The compression blew the mast track off. Top speed in a 56 kt gust=38kts by Stu Bannatyne.

And in other sailing news, Francois Gabart left Brest on November 4th in an attempt on the solo circumnavigation record (Jules Verne, currently held by T. Coleville at 49 days and change). As of a few minutes ago, Francois has a bit over 800 miles left to the finish line. If he finishes as predicted, on Saturday, he will have taken a week off of the record.

Best laugh in weeks. Thanks.

Sabot references are indeed rare and special.

Still laughing.
