I have to pick up my car in Monticello. I am in San Diego but could meet someone anywhere in S. Cal or Las Vegas. I could get to Moab on public transportation and hitch or arrange a ride from Moab. Anything that gets me close would be great

Will offer a full day of belaying, a gas contribution and a lot of driving.

email is attybeck a t geemale. dat cam

edit: Just learned that I can only get to Green River via public transit, is there any shuttle service from Green River to Moab?

No luck online, so it is the smegmabus for me to Vegas. Bumping in case anyone is in Moab tomorrow and can help me shuttle my car back from Monticello to Moab. I will have a rental car. Couple of hours, willing to pay cuz hitching sounds sketchy with the nite temps hovering around the teens. Roy Moore would be loving it though, I hear he is looking for work.

So I did the all night bus ride to Vegas and by 5:30 am I was headed north on the 15. Was almost to Green River when I got pulled over for doing 79 in a 60. In my defense I missed the sign. I showed remorse and an ability to change so he let me off with a warning. Got to Moab and went to the parking lot at Gearheads which was deserted. Right before I left to consider my hitch hiking options an older van pulled in and the guy gets out with several water jugs. Bingo, a traveler. I ask if he is going south, and he is. He agreed to follow me to the car rental office, I dropped the car and headed south. He was headed to IC to learn more about the whole Monument bruha.

I convinced him to take me to Monticello with the promise of showing him the back road from Monticello through the mountains to get into IC. Cash was also part of the deal. He tried to refuse 30 bucks, but I insisted he take it. He was living the dirtbag lifestyle so I knew he could use it.

He is in an older red panel van, dodge I think, camping at the pasture, tell him I said hi if you see him. I gave him my contact info but forgot to get his. We plan on climbing in JT this winter. So stoked to be heading to the Grand Canyon this evening in my Sooobie, rockin to the sounds spewing out of eKats old Pioneer stereo. This much stoke should not be legal. My only regret is that I did not bring climbing gear, I was limited in what I could take on the bus and I was worried about a desert bivy with temps in the teens.

Good on you getting it done. As a whitewater kayaker, we sometimes go through all sorts of shenanigans to set shuttle. You often meet the coolest people.

Cheers!

new motor in the Forester ran great. Very little oil consumption, sometimes an issue with those used motors. It is a 2.0, original was a 2.5. Only 10% less horsepower, but it was not really that big of a deal to me. The 2.0 is supposed to be superior to the 2.5 in reliability, no head gasket issues, and a I got 30 mpg between Barstow and Oceanside.

So I get to some great NF camping just east of the park entrance, do some riding in the morning and head into the canyon for a 15 mile day hike. At the bottom of the loop (on the Tonto Trail) the flu symptoms hit me, sore throat and fatigue. I get to Indian Gardens okay, take a rest and head up and out. About 2000 feet up I feel absolutely hammered.

Faced with a 500 mile drive I hit the road that evening. By the time I got home I was feeling horrible. I did not eat for 4 days, and was in bed the whole time. I got almost better when I had to fly to Boston/Vermont for Christmas. Chest congestion in 12 degree weather sucks. Finally feeling better and went to the gym this morning.
