Cragman... Jebus is most certainly not disparaging your book. He's calling out your posting on this and other threads.

Sorry Cragman - I didn't think very carefully before posting and now I feel badly for yicking up the thread. A good reminder for me to be more thoughtful

Sounds like a good SAR training video and something your life insurance broker shouldn't see..?

Well, a GREAT evening with Dean (and Batrock!) at the Burbank REI.

Dean gives a great show, with some amazing pictures.

But more than than, he is an excellent ambassador for the Climbing Community.
I would guess there were only a few climbers in the audience, and the people there were clearly astonished by the operations he described.

I really liked the subtext that wilderness travelers get into trouble, but that we largely take care of those situations through SAR efforts, often staffed by volunteers. We take care of our own. Not something often discussed, but true.

I'll be starting his book this week, which he graciously autographed with a nice greeting. Thanks.

I really believe is supporting members of our community when they do good things, and this certainly applies!

Sorry to miss you last night at Burbank.

I did catch you earlier at Cal Tech.

Have read the book and really enjoyed it.

Ready for the movie. ;-)

Waiting for the library to buy a copy, Dean.

I'm sure it's a worthwhile read and good luck.

hey there say, cragman...

wow, wonderful success!!!

say, my book does not really sell...

the subject matter is different of course, and it is fiction...

but, i just sent TWO free gifts to two families, just the other day...

1-one man had a head injury and can't talk anymore, and his wife wants
to help get him into ASL (deaf language) (writing is too difficult, but, he can do it, when he needs to really push it) ...

but her house is so silent, and she does not want to lose communication...

2-THEN-- another gal, well, she has a friend that is having tongue surgery,
from having cancer...

and, he won't be able to talk... and, he is so witty and chatty, or, was,
until now...

she is hoping ASL will help him, if he is encouraged to learn...

signing is a hard step for some men, that never needed to...
mom's with kids, might 'take to it' easier... due to all the
things and ways that moms interact with kids...

since my books deal with the main character having
lost his tonguefrom a bull accident,
and dealing with head injuries and seizures, and
having a TWIN sister to 'get him used to the idea' and start
a NEW step into a new way to communicate,
and a way NOT to be ashamed of... though 'different'...
well--
they were both so very happy to learn that SOMEWHERE there
is such a story situation that might HELP open a door to do
some good...

so, we are all praying and hoping, :)
and, will see how it goes...

:)

so, they may not sell, but, they are now getting an open door to
get out into the world and do some good, :)

wow, and, again, i am so happy to see your book doing
good things, out in the world... thank god, :)

Just to clarify, lots of yellow means lots of posts by the OP. You can figure out what that indicates for yourself.

Good for you Cragman! Rescuing humanity, one free ad at a time. Please accept a little help while I bump your thread to the top again. I appreciate the good works you do.

So one winter we get a call for a vehicle over side in the Merced River down by El Portal.

The two occupants are in the vehicle which was submerged in the icy water up to the occupants heads and they are sitting in the vehicle as we arrive.

Fire guys came and got their biggest ladder off the truck and did a masterful job extending it out there to them, and then ....

Blah blah blah they rescued the old man and his wife from certain death by freezing in the fridged waters.

When the old man was safely back on solid ground (shore) ....

He said right before lost control on the black ice he was bad mouthing volunteer fireman as not being up to snuff as regular fireman (he was a retired fireman).

Most all of the people who showed up to get his ass out of the river were volunteer fireman, lol.

We had to leave after the two occupants were safely rescued.

I really wanted to stay and watch the vehicle being recovered by the tow truck .....

(Because 0ver 90% of SAR is just plain human tow truck recovery :-))

"volunteers" in CA are usually very well trained

Of course, they are, otherwise, they'd just run into burning building in their swimming trunks.

The point was, we shouldn't be envious .....
