Interesting in that the records for the 24-hour run (it was in San Diego one year, no bird attacks that I saw) are

men - 303.506 km (188.590 miles)
women - 258.339m km (160.524 miles)

I am very familiar with that area-black bears were always around, especially at the dump back in the day. Brown bear were few and far between. Moose are a much more common and potentially serious hazard.
More people equals more interactions with wildlife-I am still surprised by how many runners I encounter in the hills with earbuds in and music cranking-removing one of your senses from the equation never seemed like a good idea to me.
