He was a good one. So many good songs, productive over a long career.

Pretty sad that there is such a rush (intended) to get the scoop that stories are almost made up.

"Anonymous" has claimed that he actually did pass!

Why would LAPD know anything about this, Malibu is in LA County. It would be a LA Sheriffs Dept. matter.

Pretty much one of my all time favorites.
And really still young(Ish)
I enjoyed his Super Bowl show especially since it wasn't all that fireworks glitz. Pure rock and roll.

While we are all quite fond of Mr Petty, we mustn't let that blind us to the fact that he was one of the worst vocalists in all of rock and roll, an extremely poor imitation of Roger McGuinn.

What an oddly uncharitable and narcissistic thing to write, Randisi.

This isn't a comparative analysis discussion of the musicians who may have influenced Tom or singers who, in your humble opinion, had a better voice than he.

This is a memorial thread to a much-loved musician who just died.

Could you wait till the body's cold before telling us what we're supposed to think of his talent based on your personal preferences?

Thank you.

Miss L , Thanks..
Yesterday was a sad heartbreaking day, the mass shooting and Mr Petty passing..)-;

ZB already put this up.. but ..i love the relaxing feeling of this song, sung by my favorite singers.

Rest Peacefully.. Thanks for the music.

My favorite cover/ duel live collaboration.

Every concert I saw of Tom's was peaceful. The last one was overpacked with way too many tickets sold for "lawn" seats so it was standing room only for 20k+. Fearing the inevitable drunken/drug induced brawls with a young child in tow I couldn't believe I didn't see a single punch thrown nor an impolite shove. Rather surreal.

Awesome music and a smokey herbal haze that made the stage difficult to see at times.

Perhaps it was just luck but maybe something was in those lyrics that resonated so positively with 20,000 people. I'll never forget that.

Found this out at work while giving a site tour to new hires. HAd to take a moment as it hit me a lot harder than I thought it would. America has lost a treasure and one of it's great voices.
