Learning to Fly - Tom Petty w/Stevie Nicks

When Tom Petty visited Norway many years ago, I was working for Greenpeace. The Norwegian government with Gro H. Brundtland as Prime Minister hated Greenpeace at the time. Gro told the GP leader of Norway that we were pissing on our country - Norway was hunting whale, seal, producing oil, making vinyl from chlorid and so on. But Tom Petty allowed Greenpeace to be present to recruit new members.

Respect to Tom Petty, his music and his attitude... RIP...

No. Aw sh#t (i.e. same as THocking). If you all ever get a chance to watch Concert for George, Petty really shines in that(little-edit). Actually almost everyone in C. for George kicks ass. He's also good in the Traveling Willburys documentary and there is a whole documentary about Tom himself. Interesting background, and the dude paid his dues.

I'm sad.

Here's one of my favorites of Petty from Concert for George. He plays with Jeff Lynne and Dhain Harrison. keep it on and it might lead into While my Guitar Gently Weeps with Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne ... .

What a drag. Hope he says hi to Roy.

I never paid any attention to how old he was. I wouldn't have guessed 66.

Maybe somewhere down the road aways (end of the line)
You'll think of me, wonder where I am these days (end of the line)
Maybe somewhere down the road when somebody plays (end of the line)
Purple haze

Don't have to be ashamed of the car I drive
I'm just glad to be here, happy to be alive
It don't matter if you're by my side
I'm satisfied

Whaal they were both born in Bakersfied, right?

At his concert this summer he looked great and put on a marathon show.... But I guess that's the best way to go out.

Hey brotherbbock, pretty sure that's a photo of Dwight Yoakam, who I am hoping is alive and well. Either way, sorry to see Petty go.

wow, what a surprise. Just was talking with someone on Sat. night about how they liked his recent show at the Hollywood Bowl so much that they bought tickets to go again the following night. One of those performers I would have loved to seen live but now never will. At not on this planet. RIP Tom. You were a consummate musician.

Nooooooooo!

I've been revisiting all of Tom's albums lately and just falling more and more in love with his take on life.
And now this.
Damn.

Well...he definitely went down Swingin'....

Well, she was standing by the highway
In her boots and silver spurs
Gonna hitchhike to the yellow moon
Well a Cadillac's right for her
And he said, "Hey, nice to meet you, are you goin' my way?"
Yeah, that's when it happened
The world caught fire that day

And she went down swingin'
Yeah, she went down swingin'

Well, she was over twenty-one
In trouble with the law
And it didn't faze him none
She called her mother-in-law
And said I need a little money
I knew I could count on you
After that night in Vegas
And the hell that we went through

We went down swingin'
Like Benny Goodman
Yeah, we went down swingin'

Moonlight on the interstate
She was 'cross the Georgia line
Looked out the window feeling great
Yeah, it had come in time
And she said I'm never goin' back
She said at last I'm free
I wish ma could see me now, she'd be so proud of me

She went down swingin'
Like Glenn Miller
Yeah, she went down swingin'
Like Tommy Dorsey
Yeah, she went down swingin'
Like Sammy Davis
She went down swingin'
Like Sonny Liston

I heard his concert in August, while running in the hills at night above the Greek Theatre.
