My first post:

I just wanted to give y'all a vision of things to come for our national lands with the current administration.

This is Cleburne State Park in TX.
Texas is suffering from the ill effects of development. Publicly available lands are being damaged and severely affected by the cancerous growth at any cost regime.
In this case the mine next to the state park literally has mined up to the property line. The mine operates 7 days a week, spreading powdered limestone over the region, coating the trees and grass in a fine dust of ancient shallow seabed. There will be no rehabilitation of the land. No filling in of the open pits or covering the bare spots with soil. No trees planted to stabilize the caliche. I don't know if such is required but it never happens.
They're mining for limestone used in roadbeds, roads, and everything else that uses crushed or powdered rock.
If one travels virtually south there is rock climbing-ps, this works IRL also. Most of the climbing is along the Brazos river, still beautiful and semi-wild but along with the world class sport climbing, bouldering and brutal trad lines, there are spots of beauty and wildness.
Yes I'm spilling the beans so to speak but a warning needs to be sounded to anyone who cares. Don't let the development people con you into believing in their version of land protection.

This area south of the park is public land and a few miles from the closest mine but when they dynamite the land we can hear and then sometimes feel it. It’s not pleasing.

There’s eagles that nest here less than 40 miles from Fort Worth.
Few people know this or care and that confuses me profoundly.

Jaybro if you ever get stuck in DFW let me know. I’ll set you up for some short diversions.

Hey! Can you guys remind me what they do, or want to, mine in this area? All that is currently coming to mind is uranium.

Edit; Sh!t, it's Oil and Gas they are after. Are you friggen kidding me?! Leave it for a rainy day. We do not need it now, or in the near future.

Here's a good decision from our 10th circuit. The devious BLM allowed one of the largest open pit coal mines in the world, based on the argument that if they didn't approve it, the miners would just dig another mine somewhere else. Reasoning like that just doesn't hold up in court. I hope there are lawyers in Utah who can challenge the environmental impact statement for Escalante, which was also targeted for an open pit coal mine. Before granting any more mining concessions, I'd like to see these companies clean up the messes they've already made.
