Never actually been up the cables until this week (having only descended them in the 90s after climbing the RR or SD). Took five girls (6-15 yrs) on a 38 mile trip trom TM to the Valley with a run up the dome. What a blast to introduce a new generation to the thrills of peering over the visor. It was a perfect bluebird day and we got on top at 845 am, before the smoke and crowds arrived. All did well on the cables up and down, with the 6 year old short-roped to her dad. They all swelled with confidence and pride back in camp that evening. All's well in the world.

Kids making big memories in nature is a great thing! Too many kids these days are completely disconnected from it.

Love it.

I have great memories of going up the cables when I was a kid, with my scout troop, on a 60 mile backpacking trip into the Valley.

Love it! Some of my favorite memories are from doing the cables with my kids. Well done. It can be like herding a bunch of cats on trips like those!

Righteous, and hell yeah for strong kids on Half Dome!

If things ever get a little hairy, we parents taking kids into the mountains can always laugh it off with the comforting mantra, "This isn't a fraction as [insert word of your choice] as what the Herson clan does!"
