Hello,

Does anyone have any information on this gear? I can't seem to find anything searching online.

Edit: Thanks for the awesome link and info Clint!

This is called a Quickie, made by Don Best (DB) - it was sold in the mid-80s.
see Marty's History Lesson Vol 4 post of August 21, 2011 on the different slider nuts, about 2/3 of the way down the page, after the shirts(!):

Don Best from Long Barn, CA used to produce those. I really liked the dinky sizes for pin scars (pre-micro cam). There is a learning curve, however they were always superior to Rock n' Rollers and more versatile than Metolius Sliders. Byrne's Ball Nuts (aka Lowe Balls) sorta took the Quikie's glory away though, as they were superior.

For the photo above......

 DBest Mountaineering - Quickie (c1986 - USA) - available in 6 sizes.
The first generation carabiner loop end is dipped in plastic, and the second generation have plastic tubing for the carabiner loop end. The nut sizes also differ between the generations. The Quickies were created by Don Best.
In the photo below the top row is prototypes which one was donated by Pete Takeda. The far top right is a rare channel Quickie that were never produced donated by John Middendorf. The below set is the first generation (lower left) and second generation (lower right).

Awesome info guys! I can't seem to find much about DBest Mountaineering. Is this the only product line he made? I always love reading about home machine shops that produce small runs of climbing gear.

Anyone know where Don is these days? Stephane would like to communicate with him about the history of his stuff.
