Hey there!

Picked up a '79 copy of Leigh Ortenburger's "A climbers Guide to the Teton Range - Condensed Edition" from a consignment store. I've been trying to find some info on how hard this book is to actually find but I haven't seen much online. Does anyone on here have an idea? The book is in great shape and I was really excited when I saw it in the shop.

Thanks in advance!

There are older copies on ebay, the current copy is worth much more, that copy is worth less than 10 dollars

edit: no, it is not going to make you rich

Your first post.
Why do you need the value?

Jon is correct.
If you don't have access to search ebay, you can also check amazon.com (which hosts sellers of used books), and abe.com which is similar.
On amazon.com:
https://www.amazon.com/Climbers-Guide-Teton-Range-condensed/dp/B001QSG93M/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1502753928&sr=1-2&keywords=a+climber%27s+guide+to+the+teton+range
Which shows copies of your 1979 edition are being offered for $5 and up.
Condition of the book will matter to some collectors, but clearly it is not a rare book.

Which edition? Edit: you said '79.

I think this was the "condensed edition" published in 73 or 79?

A signed minty one might be worth a couple bucks. Otherwise...unless you have someone psyched to fill a hole in their Teton guidebook collection...5 bucks.

Cheers!

Oh, wow. Apparently I suck at research.

Thanks for the help anyways, I was just curious to find out. Still think it's a pretty cool little book to hold on to!

"One mans trash is another mans treasure."

A few years ago somebody eBay auctioned my Queen Creek canyon guidebook and it went for $751.00. The following week another Queen Creek guidebook was eBay auctioned and my boss at work purchased it for $12.00 (mint condition). Two weeks later a friend of mine eBay auctioned his Queen Creek book and got $400.00 for it. eBay is not a good source for definite value. Amazon places the Queen Creek guidebook value at $60-$80 but that price is up to the seller. In the AZ local community the Queen Creek guidebook is valued at $100.00

eBay is a great place to sell because it captures the greatest audience worldwide. Just use the caption "extremely rare" in your auction header and at times you will be amazed at the monies the item will bring in. At the same time you may not receive any bids at all.

My Coulter & McLane 1947 guide to the Tetons is of greater value. $195 on abeooks. It has greater charm than Ortenburger's later guide (but not the wealth of later routes).
