I heard. back in the day, via the grapevine rumor factory, that you soloed the NW face of Clouds' Rest (Yos), In winter. If true and If inclined I'd love to hear about it, here or via email.
Sorry, I can't afford the book (I'm a teacher).
As 'they' say here in Cyberspace,
Dude, WTF?
Thanks,
Wade

Hey Wade, just because his answer was terse and nebulous there's no need to insult the guy. lol
(Along those lines; my favorite Lowe quote is, "I can neither confirm nor deny the vagueness of my comments." but it was a different Lowe.)

If you are poor because of being a teacher, use that to your advantage. The book could be assigned reading for your students. I remember doing numerous book reports in school. You got to think outside of the box.

If you must know the REAL truth (if there is such a thing) - I'm not guilty. Furthermore, I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of Ron-O.

It's about old rumors. Some are true, some are hard to deny and with some it doesn't matter. I'll be toasting to all you old farts tomorrow. May we all remain legends in our minds.
Merry Happy to you all.

Poor because you are a teacher. Lame-assed excuse. 180 day work year on average compared to normal 235. And teachers on average have 5% absenteeism compared to industry average 1.7%.
On top of that they usually have a defined benefit retirement plan that is far better than industry. Get a summer job, or don't complain.

wow TG- you're making a lot of assumptions. Not the least of which is that I give a f*#k about what you think about anything.
Happy New Year.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I would ever defend a schoolteacher like my ex, however I would have to say she was one of the hardest-working professionals I have ever met. She was always at home doing lesson plans and marking grades into the late hours, and even on weekends.
During the summer "holidays" she would take courses to better herself professionally. That woman put in way more hours than most anyone else I knew.
As for pension plans, the teachers up here have Superannuation, which is a money-purchase type plan, where you get your bucks to invest as you see fit. It is hugely superior to a defined benefit plan, where you get a certain amount per month.
No doubt she will need a financial advisor at retirement to help her invest her scads of dollars. I am doubtless the last one on her list.

I was going to start a thread to ask Jello the following question but perhaps this thread is appropriate.
Hey Jeff, are you still an owner of Lowe Alpine or involved in the company? Several months back the Lowe Alpine store in Dublin closed and was replaced by a North Face outlet.
Were outlets such as the Dublin one owned by the company or were they franchises/independents that were licensed to use the Lowe Alpine brand?
Just curious.

Nature, yours are the most appetising posts on the Taco!
Patrick-
My brothers, Mike and Greg sold Lowe Alpine to an English company back in 1988. No Lowe has been involved since then. I only had about a 3% interest, so no real say in things. We set up Lowe Alpine International, with the help of an IDA grant in the early '80's in Tullamore. All the packs for European distribution were produced, there, until the end of the decade, when competitive pressures forced additional sourcing from eastern bloc countries and Asia.
Lowe Alpine is currently owned by the Italian family that also ownes Asolo. I've been trying to convince them for a couple of years that they need a real Lowe involved to help revive the brand.
