Hey all,,,,

I'm going to be teaching a friend of mine how to do multipitch "trad" routes . I may have a future sierra partner :-). Anyway. I was going to teach him at lovers leap. I then wanted to go do something moderate and new to me. A friend of mine has been talking up Sonora pass and I'm wondering what moderate long routes folks might recommend up there that would be accessible this time of year. Thanks for the thoughts, I'm in dorington now so I'll go scope on my way home tomorrow.

Pitonspete- nice to finally meet you🤓

I would think herring creek road is open and the dome accessible.

Sea of Tranquility is a great climb. If your partner is really green there is a pretty good, but kinda dirty 5.2 to a walk off on the right side.

I was up on Herring Dome on Saturday. The road is open and the conditions are dry. I thought that Sea of Tranquility was a cool route. I felt like the business of the route was the first pitch.

I recommend an earlier start in the morning so that you are not cooking in the sun.

bring two ropes so you can climb and rap several of the first pitches - Jen's hooked to the right of Sea and a climb to the left of Sea with a little right facing corner. I think they all share the same anchor.

many other climbs out left that maybe Munge or Brad can recommend.

Sea is my recommendation as well. Super early start, or cook at that elevation.

The newer lines off left of Sea and left and below can be found in the updated list that Brad is diligent about updating, here...

Herring Dome is low angled, so one has to climb more than a foot to gain a foot of elevation.

Pinecrest is 5,679, and HCD based is well above that.

Should say in the guidebook too. Brad uses a GPS for locations which provides an altimeter ready, IIRC.

[clinker lies, everyone knows you you're supposed to roller skate it so that you can speed up the friction differential and thereby overcome the glide ratio.]
