Recommendations?

I just sent pairs to the rubber room and rock and resole to compare the workmanship. They will be back any day. Looking forward to sharing!!

I agree with Mark!

The best resoler has retired. Unfortunate for us, but not for him!

I got back a pair from the Rubber Room recently, and one shoe delaminated around the edges within a week. No more Rubber Room for me.

I use Barry exclusively now. I had also used Locker in the past.

To do a real compare, you have to use each pair for a month. They all look great when you open the box.

While we are at it here, who is good for mountaineering boots?

Soles coming off my Scarpa plastic mountaineer boots. Damn pain in the ass coming down the mountain with my heel flopping.

I blame myself for storing them in the hot garage all summer year after year.

I would do it myselft with Barge Cement but since boots are a life and death matter I would prefer to use a pro.

Check out " Greater Tahoe Gripworks". I saw his info on a flyer at The Leap a while back and have been happy with the quality of work and the turn around time.

I agree with Dave Page for mountaineering boots. He's done a beautiful job for me (but it has been some years). I've also used Rubber Room. They did a decent job in the end, but they lost my boots and it took them several months to find them.

Spider - You showed me around Texas Canyon many years ago when I was living in LA. That was a fun area.

Rock and Resole in Boulder have done a fine job for me. They have managed to keep several pair of the old model Techno (my favorite shoe) alive for me even though they have been out of production for several years

Barry does a really good job. He has put C4 on the front of my two pairs of Boreal Ballets.

Why two pairs?

Because Barry put a thin plastic insole up front in one pair that makes edging a dream!

With those two pairs I can swing both ways.

Did I say that out loud?

Thanks for the tips on Mountaineer Boots.

It seems that every time I go through Bishop it is before or after hours.
Ya gotta trust a guy that lives in Seattle.

What a waste of money and time waiting for your shoes to be resoled.

It's so piss easy to do it yourself.

Years ago I did my first pair using my car battery to drive my drill grinder on the front of my car in camp 4 parking lot.

later I got a honda generator and bolted the drill grinder to a rock and my wife Merry was cranking out 5 pairs a day in camp 4 lot.

I'm blown out how helpless you modern people are for simple little things.

Is this all you people know how to do is push papers around in your computers?

Werner, you need to look outside the box a bit more. I use to think like you, but then I saw a TV show about people who make knifes, and I realized that there are lots of those people still out there. We haven't regressed that much in that area. Sure there are guys who climb who could resole their own shoes. Many still do. They just aren't on this forum, except perhaps locker and cosmic. What you do see on this forum are people who can afford to pay someone 20 dollars an hour to resole their shoes because they make much more then that. It doesn't make economic sense for them to spend their limited time resoling their own shoes. And if you are worried about them not being able to do things like that, then take a look at the "show me what you are building" thread.

On this forum alone you have furniture makers. Tree house builders, knife and sword builders, drone builders, bike builders, climbing ledge designers, hammer builders, large cam builders, contractors, stair builders, and even boat builders. The diversity is incredible.

So maybe shift your vision a bit. And it won't be so negative.

but then again.. you wouldn't have anything to troll people with.. hahaha..

My post is super positive.

They will start resoling their own shoes once they actually try.

Doesn't matter what they can make.

This is a shoe sole repair not making sh!t.

Just like gluing two sheets of paper together ..... :-)

Werner, I thought about your post almost immediately after I posted and thought. "what if it pushes one person to try, then wouldn't that be good" and realized maybe I was wrong. But then didn't worry about it because I know you don't worry about what I post. hahaha Life is funny. Right now I'm kind of worried out of my mind because things are pretty stressful, but in another way I am deeply hopeful. Its a funny/scary place to be in. Kind of like pushing ones limit in climbing. I'm going to need a resole after this lifetime. know a good resouler? hahaha..

the secret to peace.. stop stressing.. hahaha.. thanks Werner. my teacher is constantly on me about having faith and learning to surrender to the moment. Stop worrying about what if and get in the moment. Much like skiing or climbing. You do your best when you focus on the moment instead of what if.

Hey Werner, I have 10 pairs that need done. Got an address I can send them over to? I'd like them to come back with the exact down turned camber they had out the box, the same fit/size, and a completely rebuilt rand that's tensioned to spec. (no splice in toe patch). Please re-stitch any blown out stitching. And while you're at it, if you could do a custom toe hook patch that blends into the shoes upper that would be great too. Please be sure that you use the exact lasts made for my shoes and be sure to have your press calibrated to the proper psi. I don't want any delamination in my resoles. I'd also prefer you use your bladder press as well, not your swing arm press. Would also like them back within a week. Thanks man.

PS - if you don't mind, go ahead and throw a carbon fiber stiffener into the midsoles to stiffen them up as my laspo-flex between the P3 and sole is likely shot. I hear it's just piss easy so it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks again!

^^^still spitting coffee out of my nose Chad!

BTW Chad is a really nice/humble guy and does fantastic resoles.
Ha! "piss easy" to do ok/adequate job by yourself. But who wants
"ok" soles on $150 shoes?

Werner seems to like DIY spartan Fix-its for everything..
Nothing wrong with that especially when money is indeed
an object..

Chad -- funny post. Usually that kind of humor doesn't "play" on this site.

i've got four pair (5.10 Mocs, TC Pros) that need resoling. if you're up to it, shoot me an email. Turnaround isn't important (as I have a pair that should get me through August)

For what it's worth I just the other day got a pair back from Positive Resoles and they did a really nice job. I've used the Rubber Room in the past, their work is good too but the wait times are forever!

I've had great results from Ramuta's for many years (since he was in Seattle), just got three pairs back.

https://ramutasresoles.com/

I actually tried resoling my own shoes once, with the help of "an older climber" who had done it for years - Pieces of clunky crap that I use in emergencies at the gym for extra challenge. Better than tennis shoes though and I ended up with a baggies of sanded shoe rubber dust for painting on things.
