Owls and Chipmunks, Mice and Foxes
The dog has a hair trigger, an instinct but also a trained thing,
a Sablle Shepard - A Czech, Shepard a Nazi nightmare dog.
Like those used to prowl the stock yards while box cars were loaded up.
Long low, 80 lbs,, while an average size head, when at 'rage' - all mouth.
Solid full baritone voice a noise dog when engaged - scary!
If you know it you see it instantly, if you see 'it' you know to stop instantly.
We have a shed that is inhabited by the usual family cast offs and random stuffs .
Junk mixed in with mowers. - lawn & garden tools, snow removal stuff. The location is more suitable for an emergency generator. This shed sits that close, it sits to close to the house.
Fertilizers, defoliants., spray'rs Foggers and spreaders are stored across the 1/4 car size Dutch barn shaped shack.
For the last few nights the resident chipmunks have been under siege from an owl
in the very short narrow alleyway between the house and shed / wood pile is a killing zone,
A no chipmunk zone.
The dogs barks when the owl swoops in, if the window is open, one can sometimes hear a squeal or fluttering wings scraping a screen patio,door.
at night between 1:50 - 2:10 am every night small lives are Risked, & lost,
the dog alerts when asleep! Every night right, now, for the last week.
I've got a thing I do that happens @4:50 am. I can't be awake at 2am .
I actually nodded off between the cut and paste from flames
Pray for mouse and the fallen republic, ( & Mouse )
re-take the democracy by force, the Russian plan to topple our working democracy is complete. France & NATO, then Europe are the next targets

My 92-year old father is an official Holocaust survivor. He was captured in early January 1945 during the little Battle of the Bulge and eventually ended up at the Berga POW camp which was designed for Jewish-American POWs. There were not enough Jewish POWs to fill the camp so they just filled it up with other POWs.
It was a forced labor camp just down the road from Buchenwald. When my dad was liberated five months later he, at 6'2" tall, weighed 88 lbs!

What is the motivation of a holocaust denier? Is it ignorance? Or stubbornness to hold on to principles ruling their lives that are proven to be ineffective if one accepts the facts of the holocaust? Or is it just plain evilness for wanting to sow the seeds for a repeat performance?

Sewellymon,
like most people who underwent that experience and survived it was not something he wanted to talk about. After the fall of Russia and the collapse of East Germany in the early 1990's the details of the camp came out and interest picked up with a number of books and videos and my dad started to tell his story.
He has thrived, earning his PhD in Physical Chemistry from UC Berkeley(his major professor was awarded the Nobel Prize while he was there). He taught at Stanford and UC Irvine as well as working in industry including solving the problem of the Space Shuttle tiles disintegrating on reentry.
His loves of the mountains and biking introduced my to hiking, fishing, backpacking, and cycling which led me to rock climbing and cycling, my two favorite passions. SuperTopo's Riley was mentored by my father during his early forays into the mountains.
Yeah, what a guy! A live well lived for sure!

Yes never forget. Man’s inhumanity to man peppers the history of the human race. That the Holocaust could occur in one of the worlds most civlized areas is sobering to say the least.
Depots and personality cults are still a real danger. Hopefully America has enough safeguards to keep something like the Holocaust from happening here. Those safeguards seem even more necessary given the present poltical climate.

Props to your dad. BOTB caused more casualties than any other American battle.

My brother-in-law lost almost his entire family to the holocaust in Poland. The only two who escaped were an aunt and uncle who had the foresight to leave the Warsaw ghetto and pretend to be Christian Poles. The other surviving couple emigrated to Mexico and told their children that they had always been Catholic. His own father was a student in England and then died tragically of a brain tumor.
My brother-in-law's father had begged his relatives to leave Poland in time and join him in England but they maintained that the land that produced Beethoven and Bach could never do anything truly evil. How wrong they were about the Germans and humans in general.

as moving stories as I've ever heard.

I'm with you Ron but I don't believe it was the first 2nd or 3rd. In fact, I understand that he loosened them up a tad for most Germans and banned Jews, Communists and later his political enemies the social Democrats from owning them. Regardless, the last few brave Jews of the Warsaw ghetto resistance with very few scrounged up "illegal" guns certainly make your point very strongly. As does Judge Alex Kosinski, himself a child of a Holocaust survivors who stated perhaps the best I've ever heard: "The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed - where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once."
Holy crap Bruce. In the "its a small small world" version, my dad was in the Army Air Corp unit that started bombing the Germans during the battle of the Bulge as soon as the weather broke. My brothers wifes father was on the ground for that and was wounded during the battle. Survived until last month.
Back on topic, my wifes fathers unit (he missed this part being out of action and injured, his 2nd time, first being earlier shot in the chest by a German no less, in Italy) liberated one of the Dachau camps. I didn't know that there were several camps in the Dachau area till I got that story.

i only knew one person from out of the war... (she is a german)
her american husband, though, was a tank driver, in the battle of the bulge...
and--after the war, he never wanted to see killing again...
he went into, animal rescue (after having grown up, a hunter) ...
his wife, had never known of all the prison camps, until after the war...
she was a young teen, then...
terrible stuff... she later understood what happened to her
jewish friends, :( when she used to ask, her father told her:
we can't talk about it... don't let anyone hear you talk about it...
