Mighty Hiker usually posts this topic, but seems to be otherwise occupied. So...from the YCA website:

This year’s Facelift will start Tuesday evening, September 26th, with a Reel Rock showing. Sign-in booth for the volunteers will be in front of the Visitor Center and will be open from 8am to 4pm September 27th through October 1st. There will be evening presentations at the Auditorium September 27th, 28th, and 29th. September 30th is an Oktoberfest celebration at the Community Hall in El Portal. Sunday evening October 1st will be a dinner for 400 people and live music until midnight.

Right now, the Sentinel Beach picnic area entrance gate is closed with no plans to open it any time soon. The whole area looks like a logging camp with downed trees scattered about. Will it be opened for Yellow Pine camping by Sept.? Does Ken Yager know whether it will open this summer or by Facelift?

I did a quick search of the Forum for an Earth Day thread and was surprised not to find one, so I thought I'd post this here since Ken Yager has spoken about expanding Facelift to surrounding communities, far and wide.

This year, Lisa and I celebrated Earthday in Mariposa by joining in with our town’s “Clean Sweep,” trash pick-up efforts. Organizers solicited donations from local businesses, obtained clean-up materials for volunteers, divided the town into reasonable working areas, assigned volunteers to those areas, organized free lunches for all participants, and held a raffle for all of the volunteers to receive the donated prizes. This picture shows the gathering at the end of the event during the lunch and raffle.

Lisa and I spent the morning working the junction of Highways 140 and 49 North where the our office is located in the Mariposa County Visitor Center. After finishing our clean-up chores, we posed with our “collectibles” in front of the Visitors’ Center where Yosemite Close Up Tours' office is located.

http://yosemitecloseup.com/earth-day-2017/

The whole experience felt a lot like Facelift, with our town's locals collaborating, similar to, yet different from, the camaraderie that we feel with climbers at Facelift.

Thank you, Ken, Lisa, and Mariposa citizenry.

Great story, Boo Dawg.

Your concern for the cleanup of the Sentinel Beach area may be a real one, but let's hope for the best. Maybe a volunteer effort is called for?

Note the correct e-mail address! Also the dates, September 26th - October 1st.

(Ken, the NPS website indicates that Sentinel Beach area is closed until Memorial Day weekend. It sounds like that's the 'usual' situation - with high water this year, and maybe lots of forest mayhem from a hard winter, who knows?)

Include in your request:
1-Nights you will need camping (nights include September 26th - Oct 1st (last departure Oct 2nd)) 2-ALL NAMES IN YOUR PARTY 3-Preferred campgrounds (Camp 4, Yellow Pines, Upper Pines, Tuolumne) 4-Please note that camping is usually more or less full by mid-May, so please also indicate if you would accept a site in Crane Flat or outside of Yosemite Valley in case of availability or if you would like to be placed on the guest list in case we cannot confirm camping for you at the time of your request

Hi All,

The email address for camping reservations is yosemitefacelift@gmail.com.

We had a forward-thinking autoreply up prior to May 1st; I changed the way it was phrased yesterday, midday, to minimize confusion.

If you received the autoreply, we received your email. If you didn't receive the autoreply (we did receive some bounce backs), are you allowing email from yosemitefacelift@gmail.com? You should because we will confirm your request via email.

Confirmations will go out later in the summer.

Camping request sent. Auto reply received.

Looking forward to wandering around the woods looking for baby burritos, mud falcons, cigarette butts, and plastic water bottles.

Quick question: Are tutus required for this year's MeatFest (I'll never look as good as MooseDrool)? Or are we going with a different theme? I want to make sure I am properly attired.

Now that I've seen the dates, there's a slim chance that I could make it for the final few days. If I fly myself into Mariposa and rent a car, it's possible! I'll be in freshly climbed condition after spending time in the Dolomites. If that's the case, I'll be looking for partners: Cosmic? Moose? Michael & Susan? Dean?

More or less three months to go. Rumour has it that the camping goddess will soon be back from the south Pacific - or at least, one of those places with mermaids and such. So last chance to get your camping requests in - IIRC, we should hear about camping requests by the end of July.

Hi All,

I sent out Camp Four and Yellow Pines confirmations today. Linda and I will be working through the others over the next week or so.

Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns.

Cheers,
Allyson

FYI:

We received an unprecedented number of requests for camping. Assigning sites was especially difficult this year because Tuolumne Meadows Campground will not be open during Facelift. Priority was given to those who will be volunteering from 9/26 onward and in order of the date the request was received.

Here are some statistics:
-On the waitlist, there are (as of August 1st) 1 request from May 2nd, 15 from the first week of May, 46 for the remainder of May (May 8th through May 31st), 23 for June, and 22 for July.
-The total number of people on the waitlist is 342.
-We have camping spots for 414 total campers, including sponsors, supporters, and presenters.

originalpmac, glad to have you aboard, if you can make it.

The morning you get to the park, report in at the mall in front of the Visitor Center.

Then visit the registration tents and get initiated into how to treat found objects of various kinds, a raffle ticket for that day,
suggestions on where to go to work, and a trash picker and a bag.

Gloves suggested & provided free.

Plan on a return no later than four p.m. to participate in the raffles each night at five.Be aware that YCA is the big sponsor of this event...they have T-Shirts to sell so bring money for that.

T-Shirts are not free but sold to raise funds.

Electric keyboard already in California. Someone please bring a long extension cord, so I can plug my inverter into someone's 12V outlet in their car. The piano draws almost no amps - it will even work on six C-cell batteries, but it would be superb if someone could bring an extension cord please!

Will be jammin' on the jazz standards with Andy/Timid.

Or name your favourite tune, and I'll learn it. But ya gotta sing along.....

I'm rallying from the heart failure after a visit to the Love Doc at the VA Clinic. He's given me an Rx to deal with the water weight, but I'm moving very slow and breathing still comes too short to deal with much walking.

But I can hang for the day and night
