We COULD contact our "representatives" and say something like, "Get off your a55es and hold Congressional hearings on the costs of health care and the profits (and salaries) of insurers.

First Lady Hillary Clinton was the chair of the hearings that you wish were held, and were held.

So much for that approach. Were you in elementary school?

Back to Cosmic's hope that a better, bipartisan plan could be found. OK, let's forget he voted for a guy for POTUS who knows nothing at all about the subject, zippo. And a GOP congress who after 7 years came up with a hastily prepared hodgepodge of crap that favored the rich and threw millions off healthcare. And a POTUS who at same time was proposing a massive increase in military spending. Let's forget and forgive on that one. Now what?

Who wants national healthcare along the lines of other developed countries, one that might cost $$ in taxes but lowers the cost to a reasonable level, not our super-expensive nightmare? One that doesn't bankrupt a person suffering from a serious illness or accident. Where those who can't afford it still get basic services and aren't treated as "freeloaders". Where doctors and other professionals make a good living but aren't paid exorbitant salaries. And pharmaceutical companies charge what their product is worth.

What if a state overhauled their system and was used as an example? Is that possible? Bernie and others tried in Vermont, but that went south. I don't have the answer. Hope someone does.

A state was reformed, by a Republican no less, and it worked pretty well compared what was in place before anyway. It was used as an example for national healthcare even.

Romneycare was the blueprint of the ACA.

Then the ACA was then blasted as Socialism and so much worse. It is hard to remember through the thick haze of nearly a decade of vitriol and misinformation.

It seems like too many people think Obamacare is THE answer while ignoring the likelihood (certainty?)that it is going to collapse. It's not a sustainable system--neither, of course, is the whole house-of-cards gov't spending.

National debt: $19.85 TRILLION (that's trillion with a "t")

http://www.usdebtclock.org/#

Trump's a jackass and the Repubs seem pretty incompetent, but the Dem's final solution is horrible. Those deductibles for ACA (hah)are no joke, so with lower and middle-income families, except for the most horrific of catastrophes, it's like having no insurance at all.

Werner said that healthcare should be free for everyone. But someone has to pay, which means, of course, it's NOT free. How that is paid is the tough part. As much as we hate the idea of more taxes, I think some sort of national plan is the only way to go, but the very lucrative insurance companies aren't going to let this happen without a HUGE fight. All of these changes, however, have to be made in light of that raging debt clock. That should scare the crap out of everyone. There needs to be some grown up cutting of lots of our spending, which means many people would be very unhappy. It seems like once a gov't program is started, it NEVER dies, regardless of effectiveness, redundancy, whatever. That has to stop.

And Mr. Trump: The military doesn't need more money. Start by slashing the Pentagon budget. Those idiots waste cash at astonishing rates.

Taxes are too low.

Raising them to cover the actual spending makes sense to me, but that makes republicans froth at the mouth and blow smoke out their ears.

Progressives want to take better care of people through better services, and want to take the logical step of raising taxes to pay for it. They can't get the votes they need, but keep trying to do the best they can in this direction with the votes they actually can get. The opposition has been brutal, and the half baked ACA is what we have to live with until enough elected officials will start voting for more agressive taxes on the rich and the corporations, and for universal single payer healthcare.

Half baked is still miles better than what Trumpcare was going to do to us.

How many other countries have as many military bases in other countries as we do? What does that cost and who/what do they protect?

ObamaCare Death Spiral?

Yes the GOP sabotaged ObamaCare so it would start to fail

Marco Rubio passed a bill that would stop the Gov. subsidies for Insurance Companies that lost money the first couple years.

No Subsidies means higher rates for Cosmic and companies have to pull out of the exchanges to stop the money lose from initial higher costs until they sign up more young people.

The GOP could have fixed the ACA any day of the last 7 years for lower costs and better coverage, but instead they f*#ked over the American people for political purposes

Repealing ObamaCare was all about the rich not wanting to pay the extra taxes

They sent their minions to start a ObamaCare Hate group
that group bought off the GOP and the Right Wing Hate Media

and these people duped dumb ass right wingers to believe the lies
and demand the repeal against their own interest

It always comes down to the people who really run the Republicans (and the Country), the Koch Brothers Fascist industrial complex

They want more money and don't want to pay their fair share of the American society.

Just like the Pipeline, the Koch brothers will make $10 billion more a year after it goes on-line, so they get the GOP to make it happen no matter what the cost, and of course all the dupes go along and will fight tooth and nail for it!

The republicans had two choices.
1) lose in Congress, or
2) lose at the ballot box(which might still happen).

you didn't just disagree with Werner.. you got owned. He said " QAUCK QUACK QUACK". Which he always does, and you went nuts. and the merry go round goes around again. He is pointing out how predictable you are. Just like how predictable these threads are. People say the same things over and over and and over and nothing changes. Not one single thing. There just aren't enough intelligent people to make a change.

Its not intelligent to insult a huge portion of this country. Thats what hillary did, and it helped her lose. Yet a whole bunch of people on this forum think that they are intelligent, and then just keep insulting and insulting and insulting. And nothing gets done because people are talking AT each other instead of talking TO each other.

The GOP could have fixed the ACA any day of the last 7 years for lower costs and better coverage, but instead they f*#ked over the American people for political purposes

This I mostly agree with. The republicans have done nothing to help.
