Do any of you have an opinion on these personality tests? Do you believe that they can help you in life? I did it and came up with ESTP, and it seems to fit me well, but I don't know if there is actually a way to use this information to help me in life.

Most M/B tests will give some ideas for how to leverage your type for personal or career development.
If you're struggling then I suppose it could be of some help.

Hi, I'm a clinical psychologist trained in assessment. The Myers-Briggs is a fun parlor game. There is little to no research backing it up, it's test-retest reliability stinks, and it uses a dichotomous construct for personality traits when nearly all personality researchers agree that personality traits are continuous variables. (in other words people are not either introverted or extroverted, they exist somewhere along a continuum from very introverted, to moderately introverted, to moderately extroverted...) Others have done a better analysis of the "test" and I will share their versions for you to read. The descriptions INTP or whatever are all filled with Barnum statements. Read some of the other groupings and you will likely see that they also describe you. That being said the "test" can be a stepping off point for discussions about your self view, and goals for life, but so could an astrology reading. We did not study it in grad school, and no psychologists I currently know use the "test". I remember taking it when I was an undergrad and being some four letter combination that I thought was really swell, and I was very proud of myself upon reading that my combination was very rare. I hope you enjoyed the experience and that it leads to learning. Also, sorry if this bursts a bubble of enthusiasm or excitement, not my intention, but does sometime happen when I talk with people about this "test".

No popped bubble here! I'm glad to hear what the pros think. Some of the things I was reading on Reddit made it sound very similar to astrology.

I remember hanging out with Henry Barber on a trip to U.K., we were there on business, Henry had just finished his long stint as a Patagonia sales rep, Bonnington and Leo Holding were there too, and everyone seemed to know about this Myers Briggs test except me. Henry seemed to think it was useful in sizing up customers for sales pitches. They pegged me with some letters, I later looked it up and according to Henry's assessment, I was a category that only described 3% of the population or something.

Actually they gave me these color blocks...
If others know your color or letter combination, it can create an interesting dynamic in that the other person thinks they know 'how you are' which in a power dynamic like the work place can be awkward really quick. depends on what kind of work place you have.

I have a work place I hate and was trying to figure out if a career change could motivate me to give a fukc, but probably not.

It was used in one corporate workplace I was in for 5 years and People semed excited when they did it, but no discernable lasting change ever came from it. I like the "party trick" Description. And in my experience of 12 years of leadership and management coaching, none of my clients who ever had used it reported any value from it.
I have used other assessment tools that I found much more impactful but I don't have the time to get into it here.
