The NL has this silly rule that requires us to watch the futility of a pitcher at bat.

Yeah, and chess is a bitch cause ya gotta think, too!

I'm sure that chess is on the "to do list" of very few baseball players.....takes too much time away from computer games and listening to country western.

Put me in the don't like the DH in the AL category.

Bour gets 22 HR's, crushed it in round 1.
Judge gets 23 to advance.

Yasiel Puig goes yard for 3 runs in the 9th to bring the Dodgers from behind! 62-29!
I take back all the bad things I said in April and May! Really! Can I get an RIP for the Cubs?

...the Red Sox Nation welcomes you, Russ... my SF Giants friends all had the same question when we picked up The Panda: "really?"

He was truly in the class of the David Wells trade (recall that on May 8, 2005 Wells lasted 1.1 innings giving up 9 hits and 7 runs to the A's... I had to remind my wife who attended the game with me that it will at least go down in baseball history).

She had read the sport's writer's criticism, aptly applied to both players, that they "were one hotdog away from the DL"

In the meantime, a "walk off walk," where the BoSox take the win in Fenway against the Yankees after trailing into the 9th, has to be one of the sweetest victories. But even I thought it excruciating.

On October 9, 1869, the "Silver Star Club" of Carson City, Nevada played "a match base ball game" against "the Virginia Club" of Virginia City, Nevada.

Sadly, my newspaper source records neither the result nor the box score.

My guess is that Walling played left field for the Silver Stars in that game, went 0 for 4 and misplayed a pop fly into a sun double.

Donini managed the team.

I didn't manage but I did play a slick centerfield although I had trouble hitting their pitcher's (forget his name) screwball. The bats were from bristlecone pine....naughty I know but they sure were durable. Sad to say they just don't make things like they used to.

"Base ball": in 1869.

Mentions a team called "The Red Stockings"

"Many persons are interested in the history of this game..." The Mining & Scientific Press, October 2, 1869

How about Trout....a home run and his 1000th hit on his 26th birthday. The 4th time he has hit a home run on his birthday.

Don Baylor was a class act. RIP

JIM, Houston has been struggling of late, in case you've been ignoring the obvious. Besides, they're still an NL team.

Houston was an NL team until recently, is now in the AL West

Springer has been on the DL. He's chomping at the bit but with an insurmountable division lead in second week of August, there's no rush to get him back on the field

Dodgers-Astros would be a great matchup and possibly even a ratings dream. LA is a big-market, storied franchise. And the Astros have a surfeit of telegenic young guns

Uh, no. The Astros are an NL team that just happens to enjoy the fruits of playing in the Triple A division of the AL.
